Haha I'm not. I accidentally claimed I'm carnivore on the podcast. I try carnivore off and on, but what I meant is I'm an omnivore.

Legend, that's also a fantastic idea. Is it set up to broadcast a wifi signal so people nearby can connect, or does it depend on a router?

Talked with nostr:nprofile1qqs25hnvelruklp5x8gjkr4yhql9kd2zwcp9ygyq565xrz2s2flczxcpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzvuq35amnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3wdaexzmn8v4cxjmrv9ejx2aspz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfdum2d34c about this today. Running a relay under a hostile regime might be impossible (although apparently Tor is very nearly a silver bullet). But there are other options. Scuttlebutt (Manyverse in particular) has some really nice solutions to this problem — because of how pubs are set up, you can still gossip, even without connecting to the internet, by connecting via LAN (and maybe Bluetooth)?

There are tons of other ways client databases could be shared:

- jsonl exports to a flash drive

- animated QR codes

- I'm sure lots more

I'd love to see/build this eventually to help dissidents in hostile regimes communicate with each other. nostr:nprofile1qqs8d3c64cayj8canmky0jap0c3fekjpzwsthdhx4cthd4my8c5u47spz3mhxue69uhhyumn9ehx7uewwdhkx6tpdsq32amnwvaz7tm9v3jkutnwdaehgu3wd3skueqpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucm4wfex2mn59en8j6gvwlazv , you used to work on SSB, do you have any plans to do something like this?

It, like, hurts to even think about. Plus the fact that I've done this so many times.

I'm not sure most people can handle social media full stop

Nostr has a growing ecosystem of apps and micro-services, but unless you've been around nostr for a while, you may not be aware that these even exist.

nostr:npub1t3ggcd843pnwcu6p4tcsesd02t5jx2aelpvusypu5hk0925nhauqjjl5g4 and I were discussing this earlier and feel that it's up to all of us to help new users discover that nostr is more than just social. It's up to us to help promote these other use cases.

It may be helpful for app and micro-service discovery for larger clients such as Primal, Amethyst, Damus, Snort, Iris, etc. to showcase them in a new area of their client simply called 'App Directory'. This new section of your app would showcase popular services that compliment your client and enhance your user's experience. Coracle already does this. Thanks nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn 💜

For example, maybe you'd include:

Nostr.kiwi for communities

Listr for list management

Highlighter for note taking and highlights

Habla for long from blog writing

Pinstr for list, note, and content management

Zap.stream for live video streams

Nostr Nests for live audio streams

Nostrchat.io for a better chatting experience

Stemstr for music creation and collaboration

Wavlake for music discovery and publishing

and more...

It's up to you to pick which apps you feel complement your client the most.

Maybe even just include https://nostrapps.com or https://nostrapp.link

Thank you!

Wait, I just realized you didn't mention NIP 89, that is the way to do this ideally: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/89.md

A question for fellow devs that I'm surprised I've not come across before: how do you encode a replaceable (not parameterized) event? As a naddr? What's the value of the identifier, an empty string?

Yes, and if you run an app, create a listing and get people to recommend it

Privacy experts: how, under a hostile regime, would you host a public relay for your country? How would you avoid leaking your location/identity while simultaneously maintaining access for the people near you? Is it possible?

Interesting take on blocking. Could be accomplished on nostr by only publishing to your relay and gatekeeping it. Blocking still isn't a real thing though, it's fiat nonsense.

Yes, great idea. We're working on private groups right now, this could be built by making a private group you auto-invite your list of people to.
