Basically all people who have used it realized it wasn't working, but those who were heavily invested on it used their cognitive dissonance to reframe it as "good for internal networks" or to say that "now it is going to get better".

That is a good question. How hostile the regime becomes? I don't think that is some Tor relay running in North Korea, neither a Nostr relay. I think the answer is beyond technical. I am from Brazil and things are deteriorating really fast here.
But why then accumulate something that cannot be spent? What is the purpose of savings other than be spent in a foreseeable future? So, why not hold your savings direct in some privacy enhanced tech?

É. Mas onde armazenar? O design do Nostr, "cliente inteligente e servidor burro" não resolve bem esse problema da persistência. É uma escolha de design para manter a descentralização.
Para resolver o problema da persistência os arquivos precisariam ser armazenados em alguns locais com capacidade e conectados 24/7, um servidor portanto. Os relays seriam candidatos a isso, mas imporia uma carga elevada sobre eles, o que pode ser complicado já que os relays são mantidos pro bono por voluntários.
