You only pay that fee once to open the channel to the LSP and then can use the channel until it is closed. I have been using Alby Hub for a few months and not had any channels closed on me.

Yesterday the fee for opening a node at alby hub was 15k sats, today it's 31k. Can u pls explain why there's such a sudden increase? #nostrhow #asknostr #grownostr

Running Alby hub is running a full lightning node so you are in full control of your funds.

As for the point of alby hub specifically it is easy to use and integrates very well with nostr apps through NWC.

If you self host then the cost is minimal or perhaps even free if you have a server or spare computer already that you can use to run the hub.
