I assume you are talking about the fee to open a channel not the fee paid to Alby to host the node.

For the channel fee the reason it may have spiked is that to opening a lightning channel you must do an on chain bitcoin transaction. You may have first looked at a time with low on chain fees and then at a time when the fees spiked.

That's right! as Den commented, the onchain fees just spiked, and that is why the price of opening a channel just rose up!

Thanks for the heads up, Den!

Those fees are paid to LSPs, and they are tied to on-chain fees.

Feel free to check out https://mempool.space/ for current on-chain fee rates.

Best,

Do i need to pay every month or every three months to LSP's? Or is it just a one time payment?

You only pay that fee once to open the channel to the LSP and then can use the channel until it is closed. I have been using Alby Hub for a few months and not had any channels closed on me.

There are a variety of reasons a channel could be closed and you can get some info here:

Which LSP you're using?

I have a channel with Megalith and LNServer.

Can you open a small channel with my node?

No sir, we do not open retail channels anymore
