Made an asado just yesterday!

🎯 Cook an Argeninian Asado at a Parrilla at least once every 15 days 💤

I partially agree. I don’t see any of my friends or family taking the time to learn Nostr. However, I do see them starting to look at Bitcoin and figuring out an approach that works for them: slowly realizing it’s not about getting rich tomorrow, but about thinking long-term, 8+ years ahead.

I believe we’re still very early with Nostr. Just like Bitcoin, it will likely go through its own cycles of ups and downs, but instead of market cap, Nostr’s cycles will be about "user cap".

As we did with Bitcoin, we need to focus on improving the user experience on Nostr. We can’t just fake growth by zapping new users; they’ll leave as soon as the zaps stop. It needs to offer more than just “a Twitter clone with zaps.”

What can we build that can’t be replicated on X or other social platforms? What limitations do they have that we don’t on Nostr?

I want Nostr to grow but I don't see newcomers staying, why don't we all ask them why and try to make some room for their expectations.

Hey! I was lucky enough to get some recognition at the NWC hackathon (still can’t believe it 😅).

I'd love to take this chance to find a few beta testers. If you're running a BTCPay Server and offer services to fellow Bitcoiners, and you'd like tools to help make that smoother: please DM me! 🧪⚡

Let's vibe write the article about vibe coding and avoid losing more time. Perhaps your readers can also tell their AIs to vibe read it and give them an executive summary of it.

Nostr is filled up with more people following the latest trend than X

someone had to say it

Entro a nostr y veo 3 post de fasting. uno con 72h de fasting. Dale viejo, es una competencia por el que mas tiempo aguanta sin comer ni dañarse antes.

Can you all please stop fasting? it's gonna make you sick. The body needs food to work, the brain need energy to think clearly.

Are you ready for X to break down?

X is not working well today, am I the only one?

Replying to Avatar jack

I strongly disagree with this statement.

Growing is pursuing many quests where you gather strength and develop yourself to get things that use to be out of your control.

I believe the mantra on that sentence is just a conformist progressive lazy way to live life, it is almost a psyop to make you an NPC.

nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzpq35r7yzkm4te5460u00jz4djcw0qa90zku7739qn7wj4ralhe4zqqsq0nm82va7u7l6n3htv3fgycaeyy3zk50gvk5azrrm4jaeef464esg55u05

It's a real ecochamber, no normies, no crypto bros, no npcs (almost), but also, content is always similar each week, each month. Its hard for new comers or unknown users to rise to the top threads and get to know new people that you are already not following or are not nostr famous already.

Are there still places with vibes anymore? Or did the internet kind of kill it?

I feel like digital spaces have vibes. Nostr has a vibe for sure, but everywhere I go (in America at least) feels flat, steril and homogenous now.

People like to pretend otherwise, romanticizing local charm and it’s fun to do so, but in reality there is no meaningful difference between New York, LA, Chicago, Austin, Miami etc…

The differences feel increasingly superficial. Miami with its neon pink and bad Latin art. New York with its identical minimalist cafes selling identical oat lattes. These aren’t cities anymore, they’re brands. “Keep Austin Weird” feels less like the rallying cry of a bohemian collective and more like a safe corporate brand slogan.

It wasn’t always like this. Cities used to incubate true subcultures that couldn’t thrive anywhere else. Seattle once had grunge music emerging organically from local clubs, distinct in sound and attitude. Detroit was a birthplace for techno and industrial grit that couldn’t have been manufactured. New Orleans had jazz clubs and vibrant local traditions that permeated every street corner authentically. Before the internet collapsed distances, you could sense deep authenticity upon arriving somewhere new. The vibe wasn’t something designed by marketing departments; it was organically woven into the streets, the people, the music, and local myths.

Now, vibes feel engineered and commoditized, reduced to Instagrammable moments and easily replicable aesthetics. I once watched from the balcony of my hotel in Nashville as 200 women waited in line to take the same stupid picture with the same stupid set of angel wings.

Digital spaces, ironically, have become refuges of uniqueness, fostering communities unburdened by geographical homogenization. Platforms like nostr host unique niche communities, from hyper-specific gaming bitcoin cultural milieu to obscure philosophical discussions, that retain genuinely distinctive vibes.

Perhaps we’re now entering a strange inversion, where real-world spaces chase digital popularity, adopting blandness to maximize broad appeal.

In this inversion, digital worlds might become the primary spaces where unique vibes survive, thrive, and multiply—leaving our physical world as little more than a flattened reflection of what used to be.

Nostr is where the vibes are at.

Real vibes are losing the battle for attention to sponsored vibes on the internet. It is the cult of who pays more for publicity that gets the more space into our minds thought the internet. We are slaves of our society built on publicity instead of quality and real vibes.

You can find both corporate and communist, private and state sponsored ads everywhere, If they pay the publicity, they get to enter into the feed of thousands of people.

The small guitarist is not getting exposure and can't compete for attention on the internet.

Real vibes will come back when we start being less and less in the Internets and more and more time in physical reality, paying attention to our physical surroundings and real vibes around us again. This will happen, it is just a matter of a couple of generations. We will find the balance.

It was brought to my attention that only running your self hosted alby hub when you need to use it is a bad idea, because your lightning channel can get closed on you by your partner.

I then rushed to turn on my machine. Booted up my virtual machine where the alby hub desktop was located. Then as soon as I try to open the app it immediately crashes after a successful password authentication. Tried opening it through the terminal to see of there was any error information and there was none. Just repeated crashes.

I then proceeded to install alby hub desktop onto KDE neon natively outside of a VM thinking maybe it was the virtual machines fault, because it was migrated to a more secure base system. Once I got it to work after jumping through dependency hoops to get it started. My balance vanished and all I had was transaction history.

There is no indication that the channel was closed. No warning that it was going to be closed. When I checked my emails there was notifications to turn it on, but no threats that it will be closed.

So here I am. Working with software that either closed my channel, or lost my funds. No indication of when or what happened. Hoping that some indication of maybe it showing up in the on chain wallet someday, but I am not giving my hopes up.

Went to the live chat support. Waited 2 hours for the first response. Then another hour for them to respond to my answers. Only to get told that I am too advanced of a Linux user for using alby hub in a virtual machine. Followed by that they can't be expected to support everything.

They then gave me a copy pasta how to recover your account article, which is not what I needed, nor asked help for. Their very smug reply that made me feel like oh well you are up shits creek. Good the fuck luck getting your bitcoin back.

It was not a shit ton of bitcoin, but it was all of my earnings for wisdom, sweat, and memes on Nostr for several months. It hurts to not go with your gut and not use a piexe of software. Only to then lose everything you earned while getting a condescending virtual slap in the face from your support team.

So with this type of sub par shitty experience what would you expect me to say about self hosted alby hub?

#alby

Alright I just sent you a reply, it basically is a recommendation to try the recovery tool.

For anyone else reading this, please check our recommended Alby Hub setups. Hosting it on very specifique niche linux distro Linux inside a virtual machine is not listed because it hasn’t been tested or documented as a supported setup.

Since this is open-source software, anyone is free to use, test, and experiment with it, but keep in mind that running it in unsupported /unrecommended environments may lead to unexpected issues. If you choose to go beyond our recommended setups, be prepared for potential challenges. 🚀

Here is the list of all the Alby Hub's flavors:

Hi, it was me who answered you on the support channels. I'll be taking another look at everything and write you back. I apologize for having provided a poor support experience. I'll reach you back,

Best,

Jean-Paul

Hey Daniel, have you sent a message to getalby.com/help yet?

Lightning address are a centralized part of the lightning network, fortunately Alby made the Hubs so that you do not rely on them. You can send regular invoices and receive them as well.

As for the nwc connections, the nwc protocol is barely born, we just haven't mature nostr yet, and already have a protocol on top of nostr, more devs are welcome to participate on it so that we can improve its resiliency and add more decentralization components to it. There is actually a hackaton being organized for that happening next week in Floripa, a btc++ NWC edition.

Never forget that these products, and protocols, they are in constant evolution and development. When you support a product of a particular group in the space, you are supporting the humans behind it and trust that the humans will put in the effort to take things in the right directions.

I have no doubts nwc will look much different in a couple of years than it looks today, and will become more resilient to unexpected events, just as lightning did, thanks for the people behind it.

Best Regards,

JP

There are 4 things:

Alby Hub -> self custodial wallet: you can self host for free or host in Alby Cloud by paying Alby the subscription

Alby extension -> it can be connected to your Alby Hub and Web Account and hodl your nostr nsec keys safely

AlbyGo. -> it is a wallet interface, can manage wallets with nwc

Alby web Account -> gives you a free lightning address

In Alby, you can only generate a nwc from the Alby Hub. You can paste that nwc on Alby Go, so you can manage your Alby Hub from your Alby Go.

In coinos, you can generate a nwc, and paste it on Alby Go, to manage your coinos wallet from your mobile. You can also past that same coinos nwc on Alby web Account, and you would benefit from the Alby lightning address as well ( if you wish to do so )

Coinos is custodial. Alby Hub is self-custodial.

The Alby web Account gives you a lightning address.

If you subscribed to Alby Hub, and linked to your Alby web Account, and used your Alby provided lightning address everywhere in the internet, if you ever stop using the Alby Hub and wish to move to another wallet, you do not have to lose your lightning address. Alby will continue to provide you with it for free, you can just link up your new wallet to it.

Alby = sovereignty & freedom of choice, you have the power.

Best,

Hey, you could use coinos.io, get a nwc connection secret, then go to your getalby.com/dashboard , then Wallet Configuration, then click on link your wallet and choose the bottom option, a manual nwc connection, past there the string of the coinos.io wallet. Then you can transfer the funds.

## 👋 Stay in Touch & Zap

Nostr is built by the plebs, for the plebs. If you found this recap helpful, consider supporting me—Nomishka—with a zap. Right now, I’m in a tough spot: jobless and struggling to make ends meet. Most days, I’m barely able to afford food, and honestly, 210,000 sats per month would help provide a basic income to cover essential needs.

I’m committed to supporting Nostr, and I split a part of the zaps I receive for this note with the plebs mentioned in this recap for all their great effort. Thank you so much for being part of this journey. Let me know your thoughts about this fourth recap, share your tips and suggestions for the next weekly recap, and let’s keep #grownostr together.

Nice report, I would follow 7fqx advice and use it as an attention tracker to bring people into nostr from some place else.

Please stop this. Bitcoin is hard for newbies, but it is a work of art and a cultural expression. New adopters will have to endure the pain of learning what a Satoshi is. Satoshis, sats, and then milisats: That is the way to go.

1 bitcoin = 1 bitcoin

100.000.000 satoshis = 1 bitcoin

It is the way it has been. It is they way it will continue being no matter how many people with big egos wan ts to write 100 pages of why we should change everything and then self-proclaim the changers of the bitcoin denomination under the excuse of the progressive idea they were doing this for the greater good of poor newbies that need to learn.

Please stop this bs, life is hard, so is bitcoin. Let the newbies go through the cultural process of learning what a satoshi is. Do not take it away from them.

I am respectfully against changing the Bitcoin denomination.

Long live Satoshi.
