I think the name Bitcoin itself is useful, from a marketing perspective for the network.

But otherwise it’s about as technically relevant as the poker code that was in the early implementation. Similar to “Sterling” for GBP - useful as a context setter but beyond that, not needed.

Yes, this is virtually identical to Carvalho’s proposal, except I believe better mainly due to:

* easier route to adoption for both developers and users due to the relatively pristine ‘bits’ moniker

* no need to spend time refuting BIP176 as this obviously supersedes that proposal

* though we can’t predict the names that users will actually use, IMO ‘bits’ seems more likely to be what’s adopted in real world use than ‘bitcoin’

No decimals! Just bits (known as sats today) and any other ‘counting units’ are up to the users to figure out themselves (like ‘lakh” in India).

Here’s my new BIP:

The monetary unit of the bitcoin network is bits, and there are 2.1 quadrillion of them.

Thank you for reading my BIP.

I am glad that both the WEF and BlueSky exist.

I mean, in both cases these people have herded themselves into a highly visible pen, where they feel comfortable enough to generate a veritable geyser of insane shit from the cultish ideologies into which they’ve been indoctrinated.

What could be better for society?

Accurate.

That’s said, I think that people tend to go over the top in their criticisms of A16Z.

Their thesis is that tech makes the world better and that they can participate in the mission of making the world better by capitalizing new tech, and make money in the process.

Despite being an amazing investment, Bitcoin doesn’t fit obviously into that model, and that’s fine. I imagine that Marc would say that Bitcoin can take care of itself. Reality will bring them round eventually on the shitcoinery.

America is resilient AF

Agreed, they have plenty of history there. I suspect the board room meetings would be an excruciating listen.

So Reddit apparently sold most of their bitcoin, and this comes after they pissed everyone off last year by announcing charges for API access.

Instead they could have made a deal with one of the big AI companies to help make the wittiest AI out there (Reddit has many flaws but many of the subs I subscribe to are freaking hilarious).

Are Reddit the dumbest company is tech?

I keep telling people that Bitcoin mining acts like a huge flywheel on the grid.

Which has mainly just taught me that the majority of people have no fucking clue what a flywheel is.

Big news for wallet devs.

Soon you’ll be able to double click the side button on your iPhone to launch your preferred wallet app and emulate an NFC card.
