Physically tough woman Here for the conversation No DMs please. Not woke. I follow back (mostly)

Twitter is my ex love. (Or should I just call it my X?.)

It will be the perfect night to train your home/amateur telescope on the moon to see the Apollo 11 landing site.

Operations

#AI #operations #autopilot #selfdriving

Let’s talk PILOTS and Nuclear power plant operators, and self driving cars

1. Do you want to be in a fly-by wire plane?

2. How about FADEC (full authority digital control ) nuclear plant?

3. Fully autonomous self driving car?

Pretty scary hun?

What if I told you that three mile island would never have happened if they just shot all the control room operators 5 mins before the incident. These people testified in front of congress and agreed that the operators actions prevented the plant from (automatically ) shutting down. SAME Thing at Chernobyl.

How many pilots have the skill to fly a plane to minimum Instrument meter-logical conditions without an autopilot? Remember the Korean airlines crew that couldn’t successfully land a plane without instrument approach systems, sad one young girl died. It could have been worse. AND THAT WAS ON A CLEAR DAY. I’m telling you these pilots are not real pilots.

Self driving cars. 40,000 deaths/year in US alone. 2,000,000/year globally. Including multiple friends of mine. Dead gone.

Ok 1 long post or several short ones… I which some LLM could help me here.

Years ago people optimized assembly code, even when FORTRAN and c compilers existed. Those people would stubbornly say the compiler/optimizer is not as good.

The fear these NEO-LUDDITES exhibited was that modern technology would overtake their job.

The reality there are more developers now than ever and NO-ONE has to code is assembly language outside of a few compiler developers.

AI is not intelligence its just a more sophisticated optimizer.

LLM can’t think “garbage in garbage out” they are limited to interpolation.

Think of it this way, ANY boring mundane or repetitive aspect of your job can and should be automated away. If that eliminated your job then you are not thinking.

If you think AI is just "probability and statistics," you should review the human nervous system and how the tangled web of neurons in the brain operate, which is not so different.

It’s still not intelligence. There is a difference. It’s a trained model trained on a dataset using supervised or unsupervised training with or without re-enforcement.

Will it replace Jobs, yes.

But so did the Internet replace paper boys (including one I used to think was cute). How about self serve gas stations replacing pump boys. Tractors replaced horses and horse shoers with them. The light bulb killed the candlestick Union just ask Ayn Rand.

Don’t confuse automation and mechanization efficiency with intelligence.

He has a point. When conspiracy theories quit coming true we can elect him world leader.

I won’t hold my breath.

That reinforces my above conjecture.

It just does a really good job at conditional probability.

You can’t honestly leave a statement like that? Weak.

Can CHAT GPT pass the Turing test?

Read the article (from woke NPR)

“Greenpeace found the more plastic is reused the more toxic it becomes.”

“There are now thousands of different types of plastic, and none of them can be melted down together.”

“New plastic, on the other hand, is cheap and easy to produce.”

I could put my two pence in here, but want to here what others think.
