Bitcoin & šŸ«‚ Oh and dimly trying to think through interesting issues. I think that I don’t have a right to force you to do anything other than not harm me or others. Seems like most people I interact with in the real world disagree with this statement. To be fair.. the devil is in definition of ā€œharmā€.

I really don’t like the term ā€œinfluencerā€.

To the extent that I can avoid it, I want to not be ā€œinfluencedā€ by some random, famous person’s career ambitions and the philosophical bent they have adopted in order to achieve those ambitions. Seems like this task is maybe impossible, but at least it’s probably a good start to avoid people who don’t see a problem with personally profiting on their ability to change the future actions of their audience. nostr:note1hjq75c4aq4x8nvaccpqsmx9rf97pjq8nkzs3syltmmazq5qn282qulys3a

Same! Such a difficult issue. Seems like we need a culture that values less fancy stuff and more fixing problems and helping people in need. Not sure how else we can start to make headway on this stuff šŸ«‚šŸ«‚šŸ«‚

Not that according to one set of calculations it wouldn’t set the scales even again, but sadly, if I had to guess I would say this will never happen. I don’t think average people’s will for absolute justice strong enough. And when giving many lifetimes of income, we really should think about all the other fixing of injustices money needs to also go, maybe we multiply this figure by x to find what really needs to be distributed.

Question, do you know whether the above already paid reparations and this number used the same calculation methodology? I’d guess no? Maybe we can have an intermediate goal of all achieving partial payments to all deserving groups using some agreeable, single methodology. Same % for every group?

Not letting perfection get in the way of the good, maybe what we can do is rally around everyone in a certain month giving what they think is right to the black Americans they know.

Yes for bitcoin! Every time I hear about reparations I just feel hopeless that it’s a good idea but impossible to actually do. The questions in my mind that make it feel like it would never actually work are: Is it tied to a specific DNA fraction that comes from slaves? Or tied to how strongly people identify as a certain group? Should reparations be paid next to the descendants of the first people’s whose land we live on? After how many years are reparations for past horrific injustice no longer due. Why government enforced reparations instead of voluntarily giving to the poor?

Maybe answers exist to these questions that I haven’t seen yet!

Maybe capitalism married to a culture that rewards giving to the poor more than buying fancy stuff.

I wanna know how many watts of heat those fans are adding, how long it takes to melt the ice, and how much water that is

FYI I’m getting an error that the zap address is invalid šŸ«‚

+ guns, a garden, and.. and.. low goals maybe?

ā€œIncitement to violence, including incitement to racial violence, is not protected by the First Amendment. This is a very narrow exception; mere advocacy of violence cannot be made criminal ā€œexcept where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.ā€ Three elements must be met: (1) the speaker must intend to cause violence, (2) he or she must intend that the violence occur immediately, and (3) the violence must be likely to occur immediately.ā€

Yeah, it’s pretty obvious that the speaker didn’t 1, 2, or 3.

Why is everyone saying it? I haven’t followed well enough, on its face it seems like a call to execute some possibly specific subset of leaders - which would fall under calls to violence which is one of the few types of illegal speech in pro-free-speech countries.
