The word pleb was a highly derogatory term when I was a kid back in the 80s in England. You were either a pleb or a rem (remedial). These words were the most heinous insults - Intended only to harm.

It's taking me some time to get used to referring to myself as a pleb, at least in my own mind (and in the mirror (yes he talks to himself in the mirror 😜)).
