I really like this Cato quote, I wish I were better at following it:

“I begin to speak only when I’m certain what I’ll say isn’t better left unsaid.”

GM happy Friday!

Video from June of 2017, I customized one of the wooden yo-yo’s I made with a flaming chili pepper for the buyer.

Back when I had a YouTube channel a subscriber suggested that I name this yo-yo trick Pocket Sand (from k.o.t.h.) and I went ahead and did so. The first clip is from March of 2016, shortly after I came up with it. The second clip is from October of 2021.

I was going through old video clips around this time, from past years. This one's from July 2017, a little promotional video I had forgotten about making. It was a few months after my daughter was born, I had just lost a job, and I was trying to build awareness for a yo-yo design I had created earlier in the year or in late 2016.

I had sneaked off to the basement sometime in the middle of the night while my kids and their mom were asleep. I had spent most of the evening catching up on dishes and running laundry. At the time, I had been watching a lot of Casey Neistat vlogs and felt inspired by his editing, so I decided to make a clip to promote the yo-yo design.

I tentatively named it Burgeon, but later changed it to Sprout because I wanted to build the yo-yo company with the name Burgeon attached. It was my third attempt at starting a yo-yo brand that sold physical products. Sadly, a few months later, everything fell apart, and I only ever got some prototypes of the design.

Looking back on those years, it's strange. I didn't realize it at the time, but there was a lot of turmoil whenever I was awake back then. Without dwelling too much, I am grateful for the present. I have more room to breathe and think now.

cool

Thank you 😊

I’m not 100% sure about the name but I was definitely going for 2.5. I think it’s reverse because it comes over the top apposed to the normal hidemasa hook direction, but I didn’t exactly hit that part clean. It’s the part of the trick that’s been holding up coming up with a good ending. I’m only landing it about 1/5 tries at the moment and half the time it lands little tiny green triangles that mess up the flow of the trick so… yea 😂 gonna take a few more weeks and hopefully I’ll be landing the 2.5 clean :)

I’ve been working on this new trick for a week and a half. I wanted to challenge myself to do the wrist mount magic drop thing at the very start and to get better at fitting the yo-yo through the dropped wrist mount so I started there and built the rest of the yo-yo trick combo off of that point. I still have more I want to add to this trick before I’m done with it but this is as far as I can get cleanly at the moment until I’ve got more time in practicing this part.

Here’s a yo-yo trick from October 17, 2019. The slack wrap/unwrap and the bind/catch are probably my favorite bits of the combo.

Another yo-yo trick from June 5th of 2020 that I liked, the starting mount was one of those spur of the moment improvisations that felt very satisfying to hit. Will need to revisit and explore the possibilities around it. Finished the combo with a backhand stall. :)

Yes, it’s a sidestyle bind :) I usually go more flourishy with the finishes but on this one I believe I was afraid of missing it because I finally landing the hard hook at the beginning so I opted for an easier and harder to mess up bind :)
