nostr:npub1ulmk7rglm7y8cykt7h40zhwnhv9c37qxq5tnna3jqz4wjx52wd8q2whweg what a great feature to dissuade people to switch from corporate social media
nostr:npub17ccqcmngac03zdj9f06alkp0ckr83fmdhq0c5nalxa6fnr682xtq23nwac It's not really a feature as much as a result of federation (at least, as I understand it). And it's not all bad. When doods said incorrect things in my Twitter mentions, I often felt like I needed to respond, lest my silence be interpreted as agreement. Here? I can just let the randos languish in obscurity.

Okay, does someone want to chime in with a technical explanation of why #GhostReplies exist? (I.e., why you can't necessarily see all of the replies to a post that you can see.)
In my head, I'm happy to just chalk it up to the special alchemy of the fedi, but a lot of people apparently want more details.
Thanks in advance!
nostr:npub1ulmk7rglm7y8cykt7h40zhwnhv9c37qxq5tnna3jqz4wjx52wd8q2whweg nostr:npub17a93lvl79m9crvwkkcglmgwqghdxzmkrllvyma7jdhl32k0th3fq4lmv9a Oh interesting, so if users A, B, and C from instances A', B', and C' are in a thread, and A' is federated with B' and C' but B' is not federated with C', then A can see B and C but B and C can't see each other? Is that how it works?

nostr:npub17a93lvl79m9crvwkkcglmgwqghdxzmkrllvyma7jdhl32k0th3fq4lmv9a I can't give you the full technical explanation. But apparently it depends on which instance you're on, the OP is, on and/or the reply is on. All I know for sure is that it's not like Twitter, where you could see every (public) reply to a particular post.
If you're out here saying "I don't see it, so it must not exist," you are part of the problem.
It sounds like some people might need a reminder: You may not be able to see all the responses to all the posts that you see.
Just because you don't see a certain type of reply, doesn't mean it's not happening.
It might just be happening in #GhostReplies
nostr:npub19x0vumzxzyjzq0d4xyr59l2gd098qzpky4d4f54a58hdl279hnhs9e9ve7 I'm glad your experience has been a good one. And thank you for acknowledging that other people's different experiences are real. It's frustrating to see people popping up in your replies saying things like "yeah, I don't see it either, those other people must be lying!"
nostr:npub19x0vumzxzyjzq0d4xyr59l2gd098qzpky4d4f54a58hdl279hnhs9e9ve7 same... I don't get the other stories at all!! I've seen arguments that white men don't have a hard time online, which is understandable, but you'd think you'd at least see it elsewhere
nostr:npub1jygc6gwsm2qxp29y3adv2c2mkjy3d77h5r69htsh7txdz7kn3hlqu34gr2 nostr:npub19x0vumzxzyjzq0d4xyr59l2gd098qzpky4d4f54a58hdl279hnhs9e9ve7 Are you aware that, due to the way the fediverse works you cannot, in fact, see all the replies to every post you see. So this may be happening in #GhostReplies that you can't even see.
By the way, I'm not sure which "articles," exactly, this is referring to. But the Federal Circuit released these documents on Friday: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/USFEDCOURTS/bulletins/368f621

So, I've struggled to find a way to explain, for non-patent people, the reactions of the self-described "pro-patent" crowd to the Judge Newman situation.
But this exchange, from The Site Formerly Known as Twitter, sums it up pretty well:
