19 years ago I got in a little trouble with the govt. by a little trouble, I mean there was nothing wrong with what I did. It was 💯 legal. All they could do was send me a strongly worded letter. I still have it. 😉
All I did was PUBLICLY call out the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center (NPDPSC) for taking SUSPICIOUSLY too f—king long with my autopsy. Like, 8-9 months was ridiculous.
I needed that info on so many levels.
They did not like when I called them out. They didn’t like that I had fight in me. And they made sure I knew.
Now, it’s 19 years later. I have managed to get along with these people, though I have never trusted them and never will. They have done their job for me, and that is enough. And the woman who originally wrote me that letter doesn’t even work in the field anymore. She wasn’t a lifer like me. She can kiss my 🍑 to this day.
It was a lesson for my young self back then, that I would never win THAT fight against the govt. no one ever has. We all lost.
So we put our energy into finding a clinical diagnosis and cure for prion disease. Every bandage on my body today after visiting UCSF this week is a badge of honor and a reminder of how I chose to put my focus in the right place.
There is no war to win, only a future to build.
