i think the choices in #nostr are not only technical, but social and mostly taken from the Bitcoin culture:

1. Open source and open protocol

2. Bips are Nips

3. transparency by default

4. selfhosting relays

5. all you need are your keys.

6. start with a small set of function

7. provide an emancipating tool

8. time it when twitter and co goes mental :) (like 2008 and financial sector)

TL;DR:

nostr reuses basic bitcoin culture to create a basic protocol that can evolve.

They are both crucial, but what I want to point out is that Privacy can only exist with Anonymity.

A communication is private if the parties can selectively disclose what they want to share.

This can only happen if the communication is unobservable from any third party. Otherwise the knowledge of the communication itself is enough to remove the private attribute of that communication.

This is why, I work in Switzerland to implement the Right to Digital Integrity (protection of dignity and autonomy), and that Right includes the Right not to be surveilled, measured and analysed (Right to anonymity).

Privacy can only be built on Anonymity.

Thus,

The right to Privacy can only exist with the right to anonymity.

Claiming privacy can be achieved in a mass-surveillance state is a paradox.

excellente présentation! merci
