A 65-year-old Venezuelan doctor, Marggie Orozco, was sentenced on November 14, 2025 to 30 years in prison for a WhatsApp voice message.
Thirty years.

Marggie is not a political figure. She didn’t lead protests. She didn’t have an audience or platform. She simply expressed frustration about what her community was going through… and now she faces the maximum sentence Venezuela reserves for dangerous criminals.
In that audio, Marggie complained that gas cylinders were not reaching her neighborhood, criticized Nicolás Maduro’s government, and encouraged people to vote. That’s it. She didn’t lead a party, she didn’t command anyone — she was a doctor worried about her community.
Today she is in prison, accused of “treason” and “inciting hatred.” Human rights organizations say the trial was political, and she has already suffered health issues while detained. ⚠️
Her case shows, more clearly than any report, what it means to live without freedom of expression. In Venezuela, having an opinion can send you to jail. Even a private message can destroy your life.
Marggie should be treating patients, not imprisoned for thinking differently. 🕊️
