# Bright Friday: The Life Giving Fountain of the Mother of God

🎶Kontakion🎶

O most favored by God, you confer on me the healing of your grace from your inexhaustible Fountain. / Therefore, since you gave birth incomprehensibly to the Word, / I implore you to refresh me with the dew of your grace that I might cry to you: Hail, O Water of salvation.

# Daily Scripture readings

[Acts 2:38-43 (Epistle)](https://www.oca.org/readings/daily/2024/05/09/1)

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

[John 3:1-15 (Gospel)](https://www.oca.org/readings/daily/2024/05/09/2)

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nikodemos, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nikodemos said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nikodemos answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Most of us see that CBDCs are prone to even greater abuse of power. But how do we explain this to normies (once we know devices aren’t within earshot — good luck)?

I usually ask if there is someone in the family or a friend who is a loose cannon or can’t seem to stop getting into trouble. Imagine your access to money you earned being inaccessible because of something they say or do that is not within your control. Just because you are related or have a message from them or your metadata is linked. Now pile on AI digging up the past.

That’s a possible direction this is going. It can further divide humanity at an unimaginable rate — if we allow it. Or we can opt into our own decentralized network as much as possible.

Cryptographers and computer scientists have been warning of this for decades. Privacy is a fundamental human right and CBDCs will allow the exploit of data as a mechanism of control. History rhymes and those with power and control tend to abuse it, causing suffering at scale and stagnating human potential.

We know this but Normies are just getting through work days and enjoying their programming boxes / shopping sprees / nights out on the town. Most of them will likely have to learn through the experience of suffering, which is the most brutal but effective teacher. It is the game of this place. We cannot fix things for others but we can be a beacon when they are ready. In the meantime, we get to experience our inner and outer world of choice.

Buckle up. Because things are moving so quickly in the age of technology that this experiment will play out harder and faster. The weird will escalate until enough wakeup.

To flourish, humans need freedom to create, not monetary enslavement. Stay wild, be courageous, and build the tools. We have already won just by being here now.

The point about the actions of a family member makes me think of the AI systems Israel is using to target homes of suspected militants in Gaza. Needless to say, they haven't been terribly accurate. I believe there's a human approval system, but that's basically been blind approval. No reason to think the same wouldn't occur with CBDCs

Nice! We have a couple ourselves. Makes for a fine cup. Not difficult neither and cleanup is simple

🎶Troparion🎶

The audacity of those who hated the Icon of the Lord and the might of the godless came to Nicaea, / and those who were sent there inhumanly tortured a widow who devoutly revered the Icon of the Mother of God; / but by night, she and her son cast the Icon into the sea, crying out: / “Glory to you, O pure one, for the impassable sea has given you its shoulders. / Glory to your straight way, O you who alone are incorrupt."

I'll admit I don't have a sufficient counter-argument as it's just never been an issue for me. Priests and structure have just always made sense to me even though I was raised without religion at all. I will say that priests and bishops are a Biblical, New Testament thing, but you know that. And none of us are the body of Christ, but help make up that body. Everyone has their calling and role so it just makes sense to me to have priests. It's useless to have everyone prophesying if there's no one to interpret.

Oh boy, you just dove into the deep end, eh? Lol I love Lord of Spirits, but I don't often suggest it. Fr. Stephen has a Bible study called The Whole Counsel of God. I haven't dove into that yet, but what I've heard is good. A few others I like are Search the Scriptures, Symbolic World, The Arena, and, most importantly, The Path. But really, man, I suggest attending a liturgy if you're interested. Vespers is super beautiful, but liturgy is something special

I don't think you're wrong to be cautious when it comes to the direction of your prayer. Personally, I don't think of myself praying TO the saints. All prayer and focus is on God, but that can be directed to Him through His saints. They are saints because of their devotion to Him and it is Him that shines through them.

Orthodoxy can be jarring, from my experience, as externally much resembles some of the Western tradition, but those things are quite different internally. A podcast called "Our Life in Christ" from Ancient Faith Radio helped me explore those differences when I was first discovering Orthodoxy a few years ago. It may interest you
