Yeah, it's a real shit hole, if you're a right wing nutcase that's into conspiracy theories. Otherwise, great climate, lots of high paying jobs, one of the lowest tax rates in the OECD, free medical and hospitals, and we stop #Incells and crazy people from owning guns. And we don't let anyone own an assault rifle under any circumstances.

We stop voter fraud and rigged elections because we have universal suffrage and voter ID. Even criminals get to vote. Criminals have to vote or they go to jail 😱.

Their are exemptions for medical reasons. Including mental health issues. And criminals serving more than five years can apply to be exempt from voting.

We don't have voter suppression or gerrymandering. We also have preferential voting rather than first past the post.

When you compare our murder rate to the warzone in USA, I'm very happy to be living in this safe, healthy, gun controlled shithole. 👍

I'm sure there are a lot of relays that aren't being monitored. And too many are just set to relay everything, so easily abused by spammers.

As spam increases on the network, relay operators will need to implement rate limiting for instance, or they'll just get flooded with spammers until their relay just dies under load.

Australians have to vote, it's the law. You can put a line through the ballot paper if you don't want to vote for anyone. But you do have to turn up and get your ballot and drop it in the box, even if it's blank, or has a penis drawn on it.

Incorrectly filled out ballots obviously don't count, but they are tallied and the total numbers published along with the votes.

Anyone that's ever participated in the vote count will have stories to tell of some of them. People can get very creative with a pencil and can turn the ballot into some fine artwork.

Yeah, he keeps spawning new accounts to send the spam. He keeps the same image though. I just added the full url of his avatar picture to my filter list.

Yes, it does seem to have worked. Is he still spamming?

I just put a block on the linked image they're using for their avatar picture.

Add dan.org to your block/filter list. They have that in the profile of the accounts they create.

Mute the account.

I found these growing in the yard. I wonder what they taste like?

I can see through time 🤪 🍄

None of the notes, images or videos people post are stored on relays, they're not servers. They do cache notes for awhile, but also do purge their caches.

However, there are relay operators that will store your posts permanently on their relay, for a fee.

Or...

You can spin up your own personal relay that runs in your system tray in just a few seconds. If you're an influencer or important person, you may run your own personal beefy relay if you're producing your own video content etc and you want to make it available permanently.

You can even spin up a relay as a cloudflare worker app in less than a minute. A relay is a pretty simple piece of software, it's not doing much other than relaying tiny strings of json text.

Otherwise, if you're a nobody like me, happy to use the default relays my nostr client chooses. I don't care if my posts vanish after a time. It's not like I'll ever say anything profound, or world changing statements needing to be preserved for future generations 🤷. I certainly don't think I'm saying anything worth me even running a small private relay.

There's also a lot of people offering filtered relays that people can use so you can watch the Global feed at work 😜.

Because nostr is a protocol and not a company or service, you have to store anything you want to keep permanently yourself. That has to be better than relying on Twitter a federated server admin to store your data for you. For free. Because that makes you the product they're selling

No, not at all. Your account is still just a data file on someone's else's federated server. If the server gets turned off before you move your account to another server, it's still gone forever.

Your nostr 'account' is just a private key which is nothing more than a text string;

It's not a data file. You can literally just write it down on a piece of paper. You can't do that with any other social network.

And that's all you need. Because nostr is a protocol, and not a company there's no one that owns or controls anything on nostr. There's no federated servers to store anyone's user accounts because there are no accounts, just public/private key encryption.

You enter that private key string into any nostr client, and boom, there's your account. Ready to use. And there are dozens of open source nostr counts to choose from.

Or, treat energy as an essential national security requirement and have regulated prices. Rather than letting a few multi-national fossil fuel industries that pay no taxes extort and cripple industries in the west so the Saudi's can fund religious terrorism around world.

If you create your account on the #nostr network, you'll always own and control it because your account is a public/private encryption key, and not owned by a federated server administrator or anyone else. Just don't lose or ever share your private key with anyone.

The #nostr network is bridged to the #fediverse which is how you can see this post that I've done using the #Amethest mobile app and nostr.

By doing this, it's your nostr account that's keeping a record of all your posts, followers and following, history, etc. You'll keep them forever. No one can ever take them, seize them, lose them because a server crashed, or just deletes them for fun.

True freedom is personally owning your own account data. Only #nostr has that benefit.
