Its hard to throw a good hat out has been broken in well. Its been through thick and thin with you...it almost becomes like a family member.

I bought (10) - 1 gallon blackberry plants 2 years ago at an auction for a couple of dollars. I grew them and transplanted them into 5 gallon pots. I didn't know where I wanted to plant them on my property yet so I kept them in the pots. They began to produce berries the following year and my chickens proceeded to eat everyone of them as soon as they were ripe. They sat through two freezing winters with ice and snow and a summer without water. I thought they all had died . I walked past the pots of what I thought to be dead plants. 5 plants actually survived. I am excited to plant these very hardy blackberries this weekend.

You know what they say "if it were easy, everyone would do it." I know it doesn't make it any easier though. You might try hiring a civil engineer who does some freelance work before you sink a bunch of money into concrete.

Good Morning. Today the gnome is hanging out in the Bush Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris 'Contender') after I thinned them. I thinned about a quarter of the plants and composted them with the goat bedding.

I planted eggplant for the first time this year. I planted it too early and it got really cold several times. I thought they were going to die, but it has started to warm up and they are really starting to grow now.

Garden News:

In addition to getting the tomato cages installed, we also thinned the bush beans and sowed lettuce and herb seeds. We also had to replant the cantaloupe (I planted too early and I believe the temps were just too low.) Oh...I also planted some Alyssum--I love the aroma! And I think the pollinators will love it too.

Day 26: #grownostr initiative

Its interesting that I started using nostr and participating in the #grownostr initiative at about the same time I planted my garden. It has been fun caring for both and watching them grow.

What I find incredible about early carpenters was the tools (or lack of) that were used. Also, there wasn't hardware stores or big box lumber yards to run down to when you need a new blade or a different screw. The saying measure twice, cut once could not of been more important on a double helix staircase in the middle of nowhere with a very exotic wood.

...in other words I am not basing my design off of someone else's drawings or experiences--only my own.

Just the process and materials to build a bench for a bathroom. As a designer I would have researched materials, maybe some details of how others have built a bench and maybe made a note or a few detail drawings. But to actually build the bench one has to understand not only how to treat the material, but how to join it and make it structurally stable.
