I’ve had the fortune to collect seeds which are in my store. The 2022 seed are viable and less sats. The 2023 seed are viable and a good value. It is taking some years to get them established in my own garden. https://www.growmilkweedplants.com/product-page/asclepias-asperula-spider-milkweed-seed
Not always obvious from far away. Monarch larvae are often found under the leaves.

Asclepias asperula subspecies asperula has the rich purple throughout the hoods. Generally a more upright growth habit. Tends to remain green thru dry summers in the southwestern United States. Although it will emerge from dormancy a bit later in spring and the seeds ripen and the stem senesces earlier September.

Asclepias asperula subspecies capricornu is found mostly in Texas and Oklahoma. The plants will emerge early in February and March. If rain is scarce they will go dormant in summer and often grow back in the fall. Take a close look at the bloom color to tell it apart from the next note.

Neighbors mother and grandchild asked me about butterfly gardening today. Good conversation about host plants and caterpillars.
While everyone was distracted, Bitcoin Core doing the important work https://github.com/ordinals/ord/issues/4335
Core v29 bricks ordinals? You recommend update?
Bike to the trolly to the train to the light rail to the airport. Seems excessive to keep the miles low on a Camry.

Fast forward to today. First bloom on a bluestar in the front yard. Kinda a proud moment.

Seven years ago I saw Ozark Bluestar in Missouri. I thought it was cool and it’s in the Dogbane family with the milkweeds.

I once had a meal at a restaurant near a bridge. There were crocks in the river. Do crocs swim in the ocean in Costa Rica?
The nursery’s plant description has me overly excited:
Plains Milkweed is a short upland milkweed that grows well on sandy and gravelly soils. It can be aggressive in highly fertile soils with good soil texture.
I hope it aggressively spreads! https://www.morningskygreenery.com/product/asclepias-pumila/
Reminds me of that puffball I saw. http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/126440732
Monsanto marketed glyphosate based herbicide to suppress milkweed.
This is the origin of the hashtag #fuckmonsanto
Forgot Asclepias incarnata. It’s a win.

Garden wins:
Asclepias viridis (pictured)

Asclepias speciosa
Asclepias subverticillata
Still waiting:
Asclepias variegata
Asclepias tuberosa

This leaf is about the length of your finger. Oregon boxwood.

Oregon boxwood flowers are tiny but they really pop in the spring!

This is a Julia Orangetip. Julia must be pretty cool.

This is super-chill spot surrounded by oaks and maples.
