There have been rumblings that Reddit might be going in this direction too. Will be interesting to see how nostr indirectly/directly benefits from these moves...
"Imgur Updates TOS, Banning NSFW Content "
Wouldn’t be surprised if nostr.build ends up going in that direction
Sweet! Lemme know if I can help debug or whatnot
nostr:npub1v0lxxxxutpvrelsksy8cdhgfux9l6a42hsj2qzquu2zk7vc9qnkszrqj49 what ended up happening with the NIP-65 getting merged into production Snort? I see the "other connections" at the bottom of the relay list, but it never seems to have any relays for me.
"The Chinese are perfectly capable of semiconductor fabrication and creating end consumer products in both software and hardware."
They are capable, what I said was they're very very behind in how advanced those chips are.
and yeah it sucks that American companies are appeasing CCP to get access to their consumer market, but that's free market capitalism, theyre doing what makes them the most money. Are you proposing the US gov regulates that?
“China’s lack of success in developing high-end microchips is well-known. The National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund (aka the Big Fund) has pooled $45 billion since 2014 and funded many critical projects. In 2020 alone, Chinese semiconductor firms received $35 billion in investments from official and private sources.
But, so far, Chinese chipmakers remain years, if not decades, behind their Western and East Asian competitors — and stiff Western export controls now threaten to delay their progress even further. Adding insult to injury, Chinese officials entrusted with achieving chip self-sufficiency appear to have had their hands in the till. Last year several senior executives of the Big Fund, including its general manager, were detained for suspected involvement in corruption.”
“but in tech especially, the US heavily relies on China while the reverse is no longer true.”
That actually goes both ways. The US manufactures their tech in China, but China still heavily relies on US tech and software for even their own semiconductor production. Hence why the ban on U.S. companies from supplying their tech to Chinas chipmakers has crippled them and Huawei. Their semiconductor space is still years away from American/European/Taiwanese levels. Their attempt at simply
throwing money at it is failing.
As for Hollywood production studio ownership, I just double checked, and the largest ones are public companies. In every case, their largest shareholders are American mutual funds, index funds, etc, so i’m not sure where you’re getting that from.
The “hehe Americans are dumb” trope is interesting when you consider that Americans are the leaders in:
- Software/AI
- Space travel
- Electric vehicles
- Medical advances
- Top universities
etc etc. Our avg people may be very avg, but our brightest minds are truly world class.
Loving the new topic search feature on Coracle! Well done nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn

Yeah if I had to guess, it's because of the location.
I was just thinking the other day that the relays hosted by nostr clients should transition to either paid or to be used primarily as bootstrap directory relays like https://purplepag.es/what
This would prevent client hosted relays from becoming too centralized and too overloaded, in my opinion.
To add onto this, I think that this two prong approach can really streamline the relay experience:
1. NIP-65/Gossip for intelligently finding what relays your follows posts are
2. For those who also want to automate what relays their posts are sent to (ie: very casual users), clients could use an API like https://api.nostr.watch to select a handful of relays that optimizes for high uptime and non overloaded relays

still see it
It’s under the text bar in the search section
nostr:npub1xdtducdnjerex88gkg2qk2atsdlqsyxqaag4h05jmcpyspqt30wscmntxy curious to see what traffic to the nostr.band api will look like now that trending users has been added to snort :)
Hence why American nostriches such as myself are more preoccupied with battery drain than data usage with nostr clients lol
