Little hack I just put together to bring the Bluesky and Nostr communities a little bit closer!
1. Create a browser bookmark and set the url to this:
javascript:window.location.href="https://rsslay.nostr.moe/create?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbluestream.deno.dev%2F"+location.href.split('profile/').pop()
2. Now when you're on a Bluesky profile on the web client (https://staging.bsky.app), if you click that bookmarklet, it'll auto-generate a nostr profile that mirrors the posts from that Bluesky profile
3. Profit!
Their early momentum was fueled almost entirely by spitefulness against Twitter lol. That obviously won't last forever when your UX looks like that.
Using the Bluestream tool, I was able to create an RSS feed of the Bluesky CEO's profile, and then using rsslay.nostr.moe, I generated a nostr profile that mirrors the Bluesky profile's posts. God I love RSS π

Yeah... technically Jay Graber was referring to Bluesky the client and their corresponding bsky.social instance, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth.
Even though the AT Protocol itself is open, something about how its being run just doesn't feel open to me.
Though to give Bluesky credit, they at least handle federation in a way more streamlined way than the sloppy shitshow that Mastodon is. wtf were the Mastodon devs thinking when they decided this is what following a user should look like?

@LizAnnSonders This really you on nostr?
I'm guessing they're referencing this: https://wikileaks.org/wiki/FBI_pedophile_symbols
Congrats on your new title of Nigerian Prince!
What are the top apps and their percentages when you look at battery stats? Something seems off
Are you against:
A) Clients trying to shoehorn binary blobs into notes, and relays needing to explicitly block that
or
B) The entire concept of relays hosting files, even if it's explicitly opt-in for relays that choose to do that?
The "official" Bluesky web client can be found here: https://staging.bsky.app/
Amethyst is a great app, but it's far from "the only app for nostr that even remotely works well". You don't even need to install a native android client on android, Snort and Iris both work super well as installable Progressive Web Apps.
I think they have to explicitly support it, no?
Looks like NIP-95 is more than just relays hosting images, it can potentially turn NIP-95 supporting relays into a file sharing network...now THAT will be interesting

I would imagine the majority of users aren't going to be stoked about their client adding the cutting edge NIP if it means their followers can't properly see their posts.
I need to look into it deeper, but it sounds like NIP94 was a well-intentioned attempt to add functionality to *specific* nostr use cases outside of social, but because it includes a benefit that social network clients can also use, it ended up being confusing.
But that begs the question, do we want to be creating NIPs that break fundamental existing functionality like sharing images for clients that haven't adopted it yet?
All the ones I'm following obviously :D
