Natural de Sena (1347), entrou na Ordem terceira de S. Domingos. Dotada de rara inteligência foi consultada por príncipes, seculares e eclesiásticos e até conselheira de alguns Papas. Exerceu uma grande influência tanto em negócios religiosos como políticos. É uma das figuras mais notáveis de mulher na história da humanidade. Seu corpo descansa na igreja de Sta. Maria supra Minerva, em Roma.

A Missa de hoje nos mostra o nexo intimo que há entre o desaparecimento de Jesus e a descida do Divino Espírito Santo, e nos esclarece de um modo particular sobre a missão do Divino Espírito Santo, que é tríplice: no mundo, na Igreja e nas almas. Ao mundo cumpre conhecer o seu pecado, a justeza da causa da Igreja e o juízo iminente. Na Igreja o Divino Espírito Santo continuará a Missão de Jesus Cristo, conservando- a infalível depositária de sua doutrina. Na alma, Ele continuará a iluminá-la e a conduzi-la sempre mais e mais, para a verdade e para a luz. Ele vos ensinará toda a verdade (Evangelho). Empenhemo-nos desde já em preparar a nossa alma para a tornar digna de receber a luz da verdade.

Pedro Alvarez Cabral e sua expedição alcançou as terras que chamou de “Ilha de Vera Cruz”. Mais tarde, foi reconhecida como parte do continente sul-americano, seria Terra de Santa Cruz. Atualmente conhecida como Brasil.
A primeira missa no Brasil foi celebrada por Henrique Soares de Coimbra, frade português, no dia 26 de abril de 1500 (6 de maio, no calendário atual), um domingo, na praia da Coroa Vermelha, em Santa Cruz Cabrália, no litoral sul da Bahia.
Frei Henrique Soares nasceu em Coimbra, por volta de 1465, tendo ficado conhecido como Frei Henrique de Coimbra.
Retornando a Portugal em 1501, Frei Henrique de Coimbra seria nomeado pelo Rei Dom Manuel I Bispo de Ceuta, Primaz da África e Administrador Apostólico de Valença, sendo a nomeação confirmada pelo Papa Júlio II a 30 de janeiro de 1506.
Essa missa foi celebrada na praia da Coroa Vermelha, na região que é hoje conhecida como Porto Seguro, no estado da Bahia. Foi um marco histórico, pois foi o primeiro ato oficial de celebração do cristianismo registrado em território brasileiro, após a chegada dos desbravadores portugueses.
A cerimônia foi realizada em um altar improvisado, erguido sob uma cruz de madeira, e contou com a presença de Cabral, outros membros da expedição e também de indígenas da região, que assistiram à cerimônia.
A celebração da primeira missa no Brasil foi um marco importante, pois marcou o início oficial do cristianismo na região e o estabelecimento da presença portuguesa no território.
