Seafile is an enterprise-ready free and open source alternative to DropBox or NextCloud for file syncing and sharing

Seafile provides very fast file syncing. Tens of thousands of small files can be synced in a minute. It does what it does very well, without including an entire kitchen sync of extras. Seafile's built-in collaborative document, SeaDoc, make it easy for collaborative writing and publishing documents.

Seafile keeps versions for files and snapshots for folders. Users can restore a file or folder to an old version easily. Snapshot for folders is a handy way to protect files against ransomware. Using de-duplication technology, file versions are kept in an efficient way with reduced storage occupation.

Seafile supports online editing and co-authoring for office files (including docx/pptx/xlsx) with integrating with Microsoft Office Online Server, OnlyOffice, or Collabora Online server. Seafile also has a built-in preview for videos, audios, PDFs, images and text files.

Seafile supports client-side end-to-end encryption to protect your data, which is a unique feature that you can rarely find in other solutions.

Seafile WebDAV interface can be used to integrate Seafile with many mobile apps, like Documents, GoodReader, allowing them to access files.

This performance is also partly due to its file system not storing plain text format files. Which is one reason why it is much faster than NextCloud.

It is fully cross-platform for Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, and iOS clients. On the server side, it will run on Linux or Raspberry Pi.

The Community Edition is fully open source. There is also a paid Enterprise addition that has some additional functionality, but the good news is that for up to 3 users the Professional Edition is actually free of charge (requires registration though).

Looks cool, but some quite off putting arbitrary restrictions in the community edition.

I always think the way it should work is this, if it claims to be open source, there must be exact feature parity with open source code for all features. And then of course if the company wants to offer hosting and support, that's amazing.

But by actually changing the feature set (e.g. no AD syncing for example), it's really stretching the definition of open source, because I can't compile with that feature apparently.

I understand that they want to stop big companies from just using it for free, but I think for that a newer license model like Bruce Paren's proposed "post open" model is going to be the way forward.

Newsflash: The EUR will return to 2% inflation on the mid-term and in a timely manner since 2020. TLDR: The ECB has never operated within a 2% inflation target and they never will.

The European Central Bank (ECB) has consistently emphasized its commitment to bringing inflation back to its 2% target over the medium term in a "timely manner." This rhetoric can be traced back to the period following the initial economic disruptions of 2020.

2020-2021: During this period, the ECB maintained an accommodative monetary policy, with a focus on addressing the pandemic-induced downturn. Statements from 2021 indicate that the ECB was already framing its strategy around medium-term inflation expectations, stressing flexibility and responsiveness to economic conditions.

2022: As inflation surged following supply chain disruptions and the energy crisis exacerbated by geopolitical tensions, the ECB shifted toward a policy of normalization. Throughout the year, it emphasized that interest rate hikes and other measures were aimed at steering inflation back to the 2% medium-term target, highlighting a determination to act in a timely and appropriate manner.

2023 to Present: The ECB's communication has remained consistent in reaffirming its goal of achieving price stability. As inflation pressures persisted, the Governing Council has repeatedly used the language of "returning to the 2% medium-term target in a timely manner," underscoring a commitment to adjust monetary policy as necessary based on data-driven assessments. This has been a recurring theme in press conferences and monetary policy statements, including recent updates from 2023.

BUT THERE IS MORE

Over the last 25 years (since the euro's introduction in 1999), the euro area inflation rate has rarely aligned with the European Central Bank's target of 2% annual inflation. Based on historical data:

Sustained Periods at 2%:

From approximately 2003 to 2007, inflation hovered around 2%, occasionally dipping slightly above or below. This period represents one of the most stable matches with the ECB's target.

Deviations:

Inflation often exceeded 2% during spikes, such as during the 2008 financial crisis, the 2011 sovereign debt crisis, and the recent post-pandemic inflation surge. Between 2013 and 2016, inflation fell significantly below 2%, even turning negative at times due to weak demand and deflationary pressures.

Post-COVID-19, inflation escalated dramatically, driven by supply chain disruptions and energy price shocks, reaching historic highs of over 10% in 2022. Current inflation rates remain elevated but have started to decline in 2024, nearing 2% again in some months.

In summary, true alignment with 2% inflation has occurred only intermittently and primarily during the mid-2000s. Both deflationary and inflationary pressures have historically pulled the euro area away from this benchmark.

Such a misnomer anyway to call it inflation. Maybe CPI has been roughly those numbers, but the only inflation is the M1 / Mwhatever supply, and I'm sure they're quite happy to publish those numbers, and that nobody pays attention to them, and that they're a lot higher than 2%

There was a podcast I listened to where a bitcoiner talked about his experience going to Mexico (I think) and taking a psychedelic. It was done in this hospital setting and they were monitoring him trying to make sure he has a ā€œsafe trip.ā€ But he had a bad reaction to it and got super paranoid. He thought they were aliens or something and that they were going to kill him. He started planning his escape while they were trying to keep him there long enough for the trip to end so he doesn’t hurt himself. I don’t remember the episode title but i believe it was on what Bitcoin did. It was pretty funny but in the end, after he came to his senses, he had a new and profound appreciation for life. The problem is that people who try psychedelics misattribute where their benefits are coming from. Our brains are like balances, if you push down on one side of the scale, then the other side goes up. But it can’t stay that way, it has to return to equilibrium. And the balance is regulated by dopamine. If you press down on the pleasure side, then your sensitivity to pain will increase. If you press down on pain, then your sensitivity to pleasure will increase. This is why food tastes so much better after being hungry for a really long time. And this is why eating the same delicious ice cream starts to make you nauseous after the 3rd bowl. People often say that the most difficult life experiences were the most beneficial to them. This is what I think is happening to people that take psychedelics like ayahuasca and have intense trips. They’re basically inducing a lot of discomfort which raises their sensitivity to pleasure. That’s why they feel so much better after the trip ends. Looking at the sky becomes a pleasurable experience. A refugee of war that survives and finds a new home will appreciate the little things in life. While someone who was pampered his whole life will have his day ruined if the internet goes down for an hour. In modern society, we are so addicted to dopamine that any discomfort is extremely intolerable and this makes us need higher levels of stimulation and pleasure just to feel content. So our baseline for happiness keeps increasing because our dopamine sensitivity is fried. Dopamine is the human equivalent of a difficulty adjustment. And you can create discomfort in your own life to raise your sensitivity for pleasure by doing things like taking a cold shower, working out, sitting in silence, meditating, etc. A runner’s high is a good example of this. Running puts your body under a lot of discomfort but there are people who reach a state of bliss after running for a long time. Their brains have adapted to the discomfort and become highly sensitive to dopamine. Pretty crazy but that’s what is happening. This is also why sex is a better experience after you delay it. The tension is uncomfortable and makes your dopamine more sensitive, so when you finally have sex it feels a lot better. Your brain is constantly trying to find equilibrium with dopamine levels. In some cases, you can argue that depression is the result of low dopamine sensitivity. Psychedelics can be helpful at making a dramatic change in that dopamine balance because the experience is so intense and uncomfortable. And once you start it, you can’t stop. Someone that tries to do a cold plunge has the option of exiting at anytime. But the psychedelic experience has to be completed. If you have brainrot from dopamine maxing on TikTok, junk food, and porn with no self discipline, then a psychedelic might be a quick shortcut to reset your brain chemistry. But it’s not necessary if you can just put yourself in uncomfortable situations that are not dangerous. And if you go back to the same unbalanced dopamine maxing lifestyle, your problems will eventually return. That’s my understanding of psychedelics.

I completely agree, and I find it so cringe whenever I hear people talk about psychedelics on podcasts.

It's like they're so oblivious to the fact that yes obviously doing drugs makes you feel something very intensely, but so what? That's nothing new. And yet they go on and on about metaphysical effects as if it's actually real, rather than just as you say, putting their body through something very unnatural and coming out the other side with a bit of a reset perspective.

But to be fair, I do subscribe to the idea that every plant on the planet is the exact right medicine for something, it's just a question of knowing which medicine to use for a particular illness. And obviously you don't take medicine every day, or when you don't need it, or a for a disease that you don't have.

So I will say fair play to them, if you've found the right medicine to take for a particular condition and it helps, amazing. But I think too many people self prescribe that medicine to themselves just to feel good, and that is simply drug abuse, nothing more.

Like weed, yes it stimulates your dopamine receptors like crazy, and that is definitely the required treatment (in tiny moderation) for something. But it's not a healthy lifestyle, as you'll just burn out your dopamine receptors and they'll be harder and harder to activate (literally hardened). And then you'll never ever more extreme stimulation to feel anything.

But people who are addicted will get angry when you tell them that, because they are literally dependent on the substance to boost their dopamine levels, so they get angry if they feel their dependency might be taken away from them.

Anyway bit of rant, but hopefully you see what I mean. Yes it's all useful and medicinal for something, but that doesn't mean that everyone should just be self prescribing dopamine hits to themselves as if that's a healthy way to go through life.

I completely agree. It's so frustrating when people refer to some event or rmeme and I have no clue what they're on about. They never say the context!

šŸŒ§ļø Urgent Appeal for Roof Repairs šŸŒ§ļø

Hello Nostr friends šŸ‘‹,

I live in Sri Lanka, a country that has faced significant challenges in recent years, including hyperinflation, a government collapse, high living costs, and economic struggles. Despite these hardships, I have been committed to studying Bitcoin and even worked to orange-pill local merchants so I could live more easily using Bitcoin without conversion costs. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet been able to convince any merchants to adopt Bitcoin, despite giving it my best effort.

I live in a home that’s over 100 years old, but sadly, the roof is severely damaged and leaks whenever it rains. The situation is becoming critical—I fear the roof might collapse soon if it’s not repaired.

The repair cost is USD 2016 (2.7M sats). I previously earned a low salary that barely covered my basic needs. Now, being jobless, I cannot afford to fix the roof on my own.

This house is more than a shelter; it’s a part of my family’s legacy. Besides that, it’s also the home of my computer—a gift generously sponsored by a couple of kind people. That computer brought me the opportunity to study web development and work on Nostr. Losing my home risks destroying not only the legacy but also the gift that changed my life.

I previously repaired the roof using my Bitcoin savings and with the help of friends, but the funds were only enough for temporary fixes. The damage has since worsened, and I now need a permanent solution.

I’m humbly asking for help from this amazing community. Support doesn’t only have to be financial. If you can provide suggestions, a job opportunity, or other ways to help me get back on my feet, it would mean the world to me.

Here are the videos showing the condition: šŸŽ„

Thank you so much that's amazing šŸ‘

Not sure what you're using but it takes ages for zaps to go through to you specifically.

One of my border collies does it to me when he doesn't want me to stop playing. I say "last one" and then he lasers me as if he's trying to scare me into doing what he wants.

But then sometimes he also has his ears back trying to be all cute, and he forgets whether he's trying to scare me or be cute and does both at the same time in desperation.

But the laser eyes are very impressive.

Honestly I think you're getting much better looking as you age. You look amazing for 44
