Violinist and teacher, building a homestead on raw land in between lessons and concerts. Fascinated by how we can develop resilience in our lives, in our families, in our communities. I'm excited about freedom tech and circular economies, and am deeply grateful for the devs and advocates who are helping build tools for a better future.

You're right - self defense is not genocide. Self-defense would look very different from what Israel is doing.

nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx sent me a generous zap during my first week on Nostr and I decided to try to send it all out by zapping 42 sats every time I saw a post that made me smile or made me think. I've probably worked my way through that first chunk of sats by now but the habit has remained.

I love zapping!

What an amazing day! I sold one of my pigs to an old Ukrainian butcher. With the understanding that he would process the pig at my place. I learned so much. WARNING BUTCHERING PICTURES!

The kill shot was the normal headshot with a .22, but instead of cutting the throat he pulled out a boot knife and stabbed it in the heart. Spot on, the first try, blood pumping straight out of the single wound.

Then he placed the dispatched pig on a piece of metal roof, everything from here on out was “clean.”

He used a weed torch to burn the hair off, used a homemade tool to perforate the skin and continued to torch until the holes began to bubble.

At this point he began alternating pouring water on the pig and tourching until the skin started to crack.

At that point they used scrub brushes to remove the “tar.”

Next he rolled the animal on its back and made cuts from its throat to the groin and took off a beautiful piece of fatty meat.

He separated the intestinal sack by hand and pulled the whole thing out in one piece.

Oh! Because he stabbed it in the heart, there was no blood except for in the thoracic cavity. Which was scooped out with an old coffee mug. It was very important to wash the animal several times during the scorching process and no blood was allowed to touch the meat.

I had to leave before they broke the animal down the rest of the way. Basically it was freezer ready by the time they left.

The best part was that I got to try “salo.” Salted, raw pig fat. They called it “Ukrainian sashimi.” Firm texture, a little chewy with a hint of smoke from the scorching process.

I’m so grateful that I get to live this life, meet people like this and learn new things.

Keith, set up your wallet for zaps! this was helpful for us and I would have loved to send you some sats.

Ok, thank you! I'll try again once the 48 hours is up. It's just weird that I could log in before and not anymore.

Does anyone here use Tutamail? I've tried twice to start an account this week. There's a 48-hour account hold on new accounts so I haven't actually sent or received but for the first few hours I can log in, I can see my account page. Then suddenly I get locked out - password doesn't work, recovery phrase doesn't work. Says "Invalid credentials"

Just saw nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m's talk at Bitcoin Atlantis.

It was a slap across the face.

So I am here now. Hey, NOSTR!

Hello!

I use Fountain on my phone but always do my Nostr-ing on desktop, and the only link I can find is the Apple podcast link - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-sovereign-homestead-podcast/id1637538365

Good morning, Nostr friends! I hope you're all having a great Friday.

Fellow homesteaders and permaculture enthusiasts: I just found an incredible podcast. Can't believe I haven't come across it before now.

Sovereign Homestead Design

The latest episode is very dense 37 minutes on livestaking for growing fodder and building live fences, with links to go deeper into good species in different climates, etc. Lots of other episodes on biochar, offgrid water systems, carnivore homesteading, using azolla for raising your per square-foot calorie production... it's lots of great stuff.

Highly recommend.

It sounds like he's not on wifi very often - just uses SIM card data. I guess he can check in when he does have access to wifi.

I'm not sure if I'm ancap (my guess is yes, but haven't read or thought about it enough) but I think a lot about voting and whether it's something I want to do anymore on the national level.

My current inclination is that I'd rather put even that tiny bit of energy into learning more about local elections.

(Honestly I would almost have voted fairly earnestly for RFK because he seems to understand regulatory capture, he's at least on his way to understanding bitcoin, he's shown courage in his long-time work with CHDF, and when he speaks about national issues he truly sounds like he's addressing Americans regardless of party. But then some off his stances show that he really hasn't generalized his insights on the agencies or on the incentives that lead to institutional capture. The guy seems to truly believe that the answer to the corrupt state is just ...better state.)
