From 9-5 to creator life. Tech, life & the Noob journey. Let's build together!

Nice with the Ye! GM!

For power iOS users on Nostr: Yakihonne and Nostur are the way to go.

I've tried both, and they offer a ton of features and customization options.

Yakihonne lets you post articles, create polls, and share videos.

Nostur feels like a Twitter clone, but it’s more expressive—it has multiple notification types, relay visibility (you can see which relays your post went to), a loading indicator, and even a neat feature that lets you edit your post for a few seconds after hitting "post."

That said, Yakihonne has some UI drawbacks, at least for me. The layout is a bit of an eyesore—the font doesn’t feel consistent, the color scheme makes things blend together, and overall it just feels cluttered.

When it comes to the Explore page, every client does it differently, but none quite match the experience Primal offers. Others come close, but issues like slow loading or lack of content make them harder to rely on. With a social platform this new, discoverability is crucial for user retention, in my opinion.

One thing both Yakihonne and Nostur get right is relay management. You can configure each relay to read, write, or do both—totally customizable.

At the end of the day, these are just my two cents on using Nostr clients. I know things will improve, but I’m glad to be riding the wave early—before it hits the shore.

*forgot the mention: Nostur lets you clear cache, a huge issue for iOS apps.

Did it work, clearing the cache?

Even over here on Android, I have my issues with Primal. You can read my full review of the client here: https://www.nostr-reviews.com/post/1733635103705/

They are trying to be the most platform-like client on Nostr, with full vertical integration of everything. The Nostr way is to decentralize everything. Your relays, client, media host, and wallet are all provided by DIFFERENT entities. The Primal way is to be a one-stop-shop for all of those services.

I really enjoyed your piece on Primal. It was a good read.

Will you update it in the future?

You almost got me bot! Lol

Can’t wait for that!

iOS is so “sEcURe”, it blocks any competition. I wouldn’t doubt that the biggest roadblock to Nostr is Apple.

iOS needs a signer.

I’m here RAW dogging clients with my nsec. 🤣🤣🤣

I really wanted to say reTaRdeD 🤣

After using all three, I have to agree. The only thing I really like about Primal is its "trending" feature—that’s it.

I’ve been asking a lot of questions because I know others will eventually join Nostr and have the same ones. I want to inform myself so I can help reduce any friction they might face getting started. Part of the reason I’m doing this is because I know some of my friends might get involved too—so I’m learning for them, as well as for the people I meet online.

Personally, I don’t mind testing different clients, dealing with bugs, or waiting for new features to roll out. I know that puts me in the minority, but I genuinely enjoy helping others

Ohh, so it’s the reactions. I learned something new today on #nostr

It honestly crazy how it doesn’t read all reactions. It’s a good thing multiple clients exist.

Keep moving until you find what works 🤷🏽

That’s tough—I totally get the struggle of wanting to do something but not having time for it because it doesn’t pay.

Your FAQ idea sounds great and it might be a good idea to post the FAQ using the # asknostr hashtag, hoping people will find it or it becomes popular enough that others start redirecting to it whenever someone asks a common question.

Anyone knows why different clients don’t all show the same “stats”?

I posted “GOOD DAY NOSTR” and received 2 likes.

Damus shows 2 likes

Primal shows 0 like

Nostur shows 1 like

What could cause the discrepancy?

#asknostr #grownostr #nostr

Or there never looked up how. There should be a pinned comment or something that everyone who asked that question can go to.

I know I struggled looking for answers related to Nostr. I would use reddit, forums and even twitter.

GOOD DAY NOSTR!!

Probably solid observations, from what I have gleaned.

Back when I had an iPad I was using Damus in TestFlight. That was back before Primal was even released, let alone Nostur. Ditched the iPad shortly after that, partially because of what Apple did to nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s with Zaps on Damus, and partially because I was tired of not being able to install whatever apps I want on my own device. To this date, one of the most common questions in AskNostr is, "How come I can't zap posts on Damus?" Makes my blood boil all over again every time.

This is also why Primal locks you into only using their wallet on iOS. We can connect any wallet with Nostr Wallet Connect to Primal Android, and I know the Primal team would do the same on iOS in a heartbeat if Apple would let them.

nostr:npub1n0sturny6w9zn2wwexju3m6asu7zh7jnv2jt2kx6tlmfhs7thq0qnflahe is maybe flying under the radar with Nostur in that regard? Are you able to connect any wallet you like and easily zap posts in Nostur?

Apple and their 30% cut 🤦🏽‍♂️

You can actually zap on Damus with iOS. This website runs a script that lets.

https://zap.army

Nostur lets you connect your wallet yet I can’t zap any one. 😔

There are a bunch of Nostr clients on iOS, and figuring out which one to use can be a bit much. I’ve been trying out Damus, Primal, and Nostur—each has its own vibe, with some hits and some misses.

Here's what I’ve noticed.

- Damus has a sleek UI and well-structured settings, but its Explore feature is weak.

- Primal is clean, with solid search and a useful trending Explore page, but you're tied to their wallet (unless on web), and the feed uses proprietary caching.

- Nostur offers deep relay control and customization but has a steeper learning curve due to its dense interface.

My current iOS rankings:

1. Damus

2. Primal

3. Nostur

Nostr is still early, but I'm optimistic. Just wanted to share my first impressions.
