From 9-5 to creator life. Tech, life & the Noob journey. Let's build together!

It’s like the option is there to stay in the App Store but let us make it so limited that people will look for other means.

I wonder why companies push for paperless billing, especially since they don’t offer any incentives to convert.

ā€œDelete photos even harderā€ I felt that. And when that doesn’t work, delete photos harder than harder!!

I use a NAS mainly for backup and to free up space by deleting local files. But some apps burn through storage ridiculously fast — like Spotify, Damus, Primal, and the usual centralized social media apps.

Apple intentionally makes it difficult to clear cache, clearly pushing users toward buying more iCloud storage. It’s a frustrating tactic.

Synology used to be the ā€œAppleā€ of the NAS world — polished, user-friendly, and reliable. But after their latest announcement, it feels like the company is going downhill fast.

They’ve been stripping away features from Synology Photos, removing essential video codecs like H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC), and VC-1, Video Station, and updating Container Manager (Docker) to a version that’s already reached end-of-life. Now, they're taking it even further by locking new Plus models to only use their hard drives or ones they explicitly approve.

It’s a disappointing direction. I’ll stick with the models I already have for now, but I’m seriously considering building a new server — probably running TrueNAS or Unraid.

That’s pretty smart. In case anything happens to the phone, the important stuff is backed up.

I use a NAS for backup.

What’s your go-to solution when you start running out of space?

iPhone users—how do you store your photos?

Locally on your device, or do you use a cloud service like iCloud, Google Photos, Synology Photos, Immich, or Dropbox?

When you're using something on your phone, which one do you usually go for—and why?

1. An app

2. The browser

3. A PWA (Progressive Web App)

I need to setup & self-host my own RSS feed. Seriously missing out on its functionality. #grownostr #nostr

What about if you're on iOS?

Is there a website that lists available paid relays?

Even with a paid relay, I assume it can still see your traffic—it would have to log it. I bring up VPNs because they mask your IP address. While relays might still have access to your data, they likely wouldn't be able to determine your geolocation from the IP, which is probably the main concern for most people.

I’m thankful to be here!! šŸ˜Ž
