While I won’t receive any prices for my welding today, at least I’m getting better at it. And welding upside down was never easy.
This is the exhaust port getting patched shut. Whether I make a new one is up for debate.

This engine might be too far gone. The reason I need to take out the engine in picture.
There has been a saltwater leak that has sprayed the right side of the engine. For all I know it may have been going on for years before the boat got in my hands.
Disappointing, but it is what it is.

Task for the evening is to finalise preparations to hoist out the engine for overhaul/replacement.
It’s an old Volvo penta that so far has seemed reliable, but heavy and with gearing/prop out of ratio. Also it seem to produce way to much power for this boat
Another thing that I need to do is to treat rust under the engine.

Back to the fiat mine.
Repurpose and reuse.
This is the rigging of an unknown dinghy that has been laying around. It has been separated from its former companion, so I hope it will serve well as a spinnaker pole. Just need to figure out if the diameter is suited to handle the loads of a much bigger sail.

It only uses tungsten tips and is spun around 3000rpm so that the tungsten slams into the steel. Very cost effective. Can remove a bit too much metal if not careful.

Starting to prep the topsides for coating today.
Had some small to severe cracks in the fairing. They might be caused by thermal expansion or shrinking polyester fairing.
So I will fair with epoxy and choose a lighter colour for this job

Months of preparation lead up to two days of painting in total 4 layers on strickt timing.

Tool of the day: impact driver.
Some screws seem impossible and the screw driver will just slip before you can put enough torque on to turn the screw.
The impact driver might help as it turns when giving it a whack with the sledge hammer.
This is the screw holding the cutlass bearing that will need to be replaced.
