There's a number of ways to discover folks worth following, but I will give you how I usually go about it:

Hop over to coracle.social, login using your browser extension of choice, and then head to the settings. Under "Content" there will be a slider for Minimum WoT score. Crank that baby to 10 and save your settings. Then head back to your Feeds and select the Global feed.

On ANY OTHER client, Global should be avoided like the plague! But with WoT cranked up to 10 like this, you won't see any spam or bots. You will only see people that would be worth considering a follow, based on who you are currently following, and who they are following vs who they have muted.

If you want to branch out a bit from your current follows, go back to your WoT setting and lower it to 3, then go back to the Feeds and search for any hashtag you might be interested in.

You should find plenty of nostriches to follow with this method.

Nah, NIP-05 works fine, but the user has to know what the NIP-05 SHOULD be before they can verify the correct account.

My NIP-05 is dikaios1517@nostrplebs.com, but any rando could go out and register nostrrplebs.com and create their own NIP-05s to impersonate anyone currently registered with nostrplebs.com

Anyone who isn't paying attention and just sees the check mark might be duped.

My feed only shows people I follow. I don't follow any bots, so I don't see any bots in my feed. Replies... Well that's a different story, but there are ways to minimize those, too.

A friend of mine had some 3D printed gifts for me today. I guess my daughters and I have some painting ahead of us.

But communism isn't just about redistribution of resources. It is about public (state) ownership of the means of production. That's not possible without government.

You can "request deletion" in some clients, but depending on what relays your note has propagated to in the network, some may not comply with the request, and some may not even receive the request.

As a general rule, anything you post on the internet should be considered to be permanently available somewhere. Nostr is just more honest about it.

Welcome to the party! You are in the right place.

You are interacting with #Nostr through a particular client that happens to look a lot like Twitter. There are other clients that look more like Reddit, or that look like a podcast player, or music streaming service... They're all Nostr clients, though, and you can log into all of them with your private key, though we would recommend using an app like #Amber on Android, or a browser extension for web apps. You should avoid putting your private key itself into every app you come across.

Some clients include a marketplace, others include live-streaming, and others are for audio chatting. There are a MASSIVE number of different types of apps and experiences, and you'll want to explore.

Hey! That's very interesting that it is saying I am from mostr.pub... I am a Nostr native who recently started testing out connecting to Nostr on Mastodon's Android app via nostr:npub1q3sle0kvfsehgsuexttt3ugjd8xdklxfwwkh559wxckmzddywnws6cd26p 's ditto.pub

I can give you some insight into what makes the two different, though.

As I understand it, in order to interact on Mastodon, you need to be a member of a particular instance (think relay). That instance has FULL control over your continued existence on Mastodon. You can interact with people and content on other instances, but your "home" instance remains in control of your identity. If they ban you, you must start over with a whole new profile on another instance.

Things are entirely different here on Nostr. YOU own your profile, your follows, and your content. You can host it yourself on a private relay, and you can host it redundantly on your choice of public relays. If one relay bans you, no big deal. Your profile is backed up far and wide on a multitude of relays, and your content is likely still available from the other relays you are posting to.

No need to share it. Once it is on your profile, you can be zapped.

If you want to catch new folks coming in, follow #introductions and possibly to a lesser extent these days #plebchain. That is... Assuming these new folks know enough to use those hashtags.

If you are wanting assistance with literally ANYTHING, just use #asknostr. If you are asking about a specific client, you can absolutely add the client name as a hashtag, too. For instance #Amethyst, #Damus, #Primal, or #Coracle, and someone who uses that client, or even the developer(s), will respond.

In our state, she's been able to get a W2 job since she was 14, and she has one teaching gymnastics, but God forbid she try to sell things she makes in her spare time online. Must be 18 for that.

Also, the stitches look like dragon scales.

Deletion anywhere on the internet is an illusion. Your supposedly deleted post is hidden from your view on Facebook or X, or other platforms, but did they actually purge it from their database? Maybe.

We must always operate under the assumption that what we post on the internet is like toothpaste that can't be put back in the tube.

#Nostr is no different, it's just honest about it. You can "request deletion" on some clients, but the relays your note has already propagated to may or may not comply or even receive the request.

Why when I connect my AlbyHub to nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 it gives a warning that it’s custodial even though I’m self hosting?

Am I an idiot?

#asknostr

Heh, you ARE self-hosting, but nostr:nprofile1qqsrf5h4ya83jk8u6t9jgc76h6kalz3plp9vusjpm2ygqgalqhxgp9gpr3mhxue69uhkummnw3ezumt4w35ku7thv9kxcet59e3k7mgpzemhxue69uhkkmr0vd4k2mn8vyh8xmmrd9skcqguwaehxw309ahx7um5wghxy6t5vdhkjmn9wgh8xmmrd9skctylktc wallet can't tell that. As far as it knows, you are using a wallet hosted on some rando's node. You just happen to be that rando.

I know we love ostriches around here, but this is my purple #Nostr dragon.

That's the one I was thinking of! I haven't used it since I got Citrine set up, so I couldn't think of it off the top of my head.

Definitely will! Very proud to say I was her first paying customer. Here's what she made me:

Essentially, your follow list gets saved to certain relays by one client. You go to another client and add or remove a follow and instead of taking your existing list into consideration, it creates a new list, nuking your existing one because relays only keep the most recent version of your follows.

This is why backing it up on the regular using Citrine or other tools is a good idea.

My daughter may not be able to start her own Etsy store until she's 18 and the fiat gatekeepers give her permission, but she can sell her adorably weird creations here on #Nostr for sats without any permission at all.

I think they're supposed to be little flower people... #blooming #permissionless #Bitcoin

Meanwhile, up here in the north country, we think anything above 80°F is a heat wave.

If you are happy with the people you are currently following and want more of the same, check out Coracle.Social and go to your settings. Crank your web of trust minimum up to 10 and jump into the global feed.

No spam and the folks who show up that you aren't already following are likely to be worth considering.

If you are looking to branch out,I recommend lowering your minimum web of trust to 3 or so and then search for posts by hashtag. Any tag you think someone might use for the topic you are interested in will do.
