Miracle Ball. Barcode Battler. NE2000 compatible. I used to post about random DOS games that The Script™ picked from a pool of about 17000 games but after about 140 games I unfortunately lost the motivation to continue. If you're really interested they can be found all the way down on my timeline (I posted about the last game on 15-08-2023)

Good news everyone, MS-DOS is not affected by the #WebP image vulnerability!

All other operating systems and software you can think of (browsers, messengers, anything Electron-based, drawing programs, e-mail clients, etc. etc.) are so be sure to update everything you have.

If a program got a "performance improvements and bug fixes" update just after the 12th of September then it probably was vulnerable to this.

See this article for more information: https://stackdiary.com/critical-vulnerability-in-webp-codec-cve-2023-4863/

A beautiful, random moment from the #Onimusha 3 run during the #RTAinJapan speedrun marathon.

nostr:npub1e6terth50yfalye564sdmrwyryameec6umtmnsrwk0dc7pwsyvaq5xjj6r Do you have that Xbox (soft)modded? If not then it's at risk of becoming a very heavy paperweight once the hard drive dies.

Other GUIs that I can quickly think of are: msd, edit, memmaker, dosshell, qbasic, the Microsoft anti-virus one (mav?)

nostr:npub1up2vmruxg7m4mv0x0qj596t4wnem2720x00etfp6c0uuwm54cc6sm3k6en I still need to try it out myself but I enjoyed watching the Computer Chronicles' episode of OS/2 Warp. The thing that stuck with me the most though were the sound effects.

Game 139: Soh-Lo (1994), by Darco Software.

The Battle Chess version of the classic (Peg) Solitaire game. Marbles are eaten, squashed, cut, blasted, burnt and liquefied when it's their time to leave the board.

These animations and their sounds can be turned off should you get tired of them, which is not unlikely as completing the puzzle involves removing about 30 marbles.

When you finally discover the solution you can use the in-game editor to create your own puzzles.

It's a shame they broadcasted this during a children's cartoon block because even now as an adult I still don't feel like watching it again. I felt so bad for the poor, poor rabbits.

In June there was a Speedball tournament held online via AmigaLive.

AmigaLive is program that let's you multiplayer Amiga games online.

Last June a Speedball tournament was held using it. The first round was Speedball 1, the rest was Speedball 2.

16 people from around the world (lag permitting) competed. I think it's super neat that a 33 year old game (35 years for SB1) was played competitively over the internet.

nostr:npub1fklsg82xm5gc7g4ky4ks6t3f7unkl4dxn47nj4jyhn2frpxm5fys527udr A lot of that is 2nd Edition AD&D ruleset weirdness, yeah. With THAC0 and AC and the amount of resting needed - all very arcane and clunky now.

3rd Edition onward streamlined and refined the ruleset as D&D started getting more and more mainstream play and attention and it's continued into the current 5E that BG3 is based on. You'd likely enjoy it a lot more.

nostr:npub1e6terth50yfalye564sdmrwyryameec6umtmnsrwk0dc7pwsyvaq5xjj6r Good to know that it wasn't just me, thanks!

I might have to give BG3 a try soon then :)

nostr:npub1e6terth50yfalye564sdmrwyryameec6umtmnsrwk0dc7pwsyvaq5xjj6r I can't believe how positive people are about the game.

I guess it has barely any relation with it, but I always struggled to get through Baldur's Gate 2.

I've tried multiple times but the amount of resting I had to do to recover HP and MP, just to get out of the initial dungeon, felt wrong. Like I didn't understand any of the D&D mechanics.

nostr:npub19hcsfvx2d7nu5d4qz5fmusjrne3n0f0vzg0cet7t4x9ucszasaps5h9pfz I've been considering to use mine as a planner but unfortunately(?) I don't have enough appointments to keep track of.

If you don't have it yet and want to carry it with you, the protective flip cover is vital. The soft, non-Gorilla glass touch screen is really fragile.

Game 135: Mission Supernova - Teil 1 (1993) by Thomas & Steffen Dingel.

Horst Hummel, chef on the starship Supernova, manages to sleep through the ship's evacuation alarm and is now home alone. Being a simple cook all he can do is try to get the hibernation pods working again and see where the ship will end up.

A first person point & click adventure in German with a light, humorous tone, reasonable puzzle elements (except for some harder ones near the end) and some deaths.

nostr:npub1dtvnzztccjdm25r3gtel5fgf2tpg9tshx78gfsgfll5y0s0vys0qh3vvkd The "PREY" directory did have some additional info about the game. One vital part of the main character was clearly changed.

Since I don't have the character limit (my instance has a limit of 500 characters per toot) and I don't want to post a screenshot if it, I will split the file up in several replies.

Game 132: Gabriel Knight (1993), by Sierra.

Also known as Voodoo Quest 1, in which you play a part time author, part time investigator of the supernatural and full time jerk to women at a time when his hometown of New Orleans is shook up by a string of voodoo related murders.

Different from earlier Sierra quests in several ways but the moon logic puzzles are still there.

Do play the CD version of the game for some amazing voice acting of Tim Curry doing a Southern accent.
