I don't know if the share is real mining, but some company sell fake (virtual) mining hashrate. They just buy bitcoin from the market and pay you later .

It does indeed :) But you know, staying in academia nowadays is like mining the last available bitcoin.

A 30% tax on mining in the US would mean all mining leaves the US. That would effectively ban Bitcoin mining without saying that you're banning Bitcoin mining. It would be a huge geopolitical mistake to do so and would hinder US energy innovation.

Fun fact: If the US raises the tax for Bitcoin mining operations they'll simply relocate just like other companies who rather produce in Asia (or other countries) rather than the US. In fact, this might backfire for the US on the mid-term IF this tax hike passes.
