Testing a Dell XPS laptop that has a 16x10 aspect ratio screen (1920 x 1200). Other than that feature, I do not like the laptop. Metal exterior feels uncomfortable, at least compared to a ThinkPad. It only has USB C ports, no USB A.

Otherwise seems fine. I'll install Linux on it and see how it performs. The owner gave up on it after it kept turning off on him. I think it may possibly work fine with Linux. At least it did with a live boot.

I use a vertical mouse at my desktop workstation. I think we've chatted about that before.

Totally understand about not getting to the LibreBoot install on the x220t if it requires de-soldering and re-soldering. I still haven't LibreBooted a device, even though I have several that would be good candidates.

Agreed. Windows 11 will technically work with only 4GB of memory, but you can only have one or two programs open at a time and large web apps will be close to unusable. So quadrupling the memory was a good thing to do. I wouldn't have upgraded to Windows 11 if the customer hadn't agreed to the memory upgrade.

Speaking of resource intensive... i3wm is the opposite of that. I am enjoying it on my ThinkPad X270. I have to familiarize myself with it more. Sound is broken. I think the script didn't play well with Devuan. I should be able to fix it myself when I dedicate some time to it.

I believe that I found the solution to this problem. Turning off the "fast startup" feature in Windows made the problem go away. I have tested and confirmed on a ThinkPad T470s.

Here's a guide: https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001762.htm

I am typing this from a ThinkPad X270 now.

The X220 was probably my favorite. I should restore one of those and maybe do some mods.

Would you use an external mouse with the ThinkPad X200 or just the trackpoint?

If you need parts or an extra X200, I may have them.

While I am waiting for CloneZilla to verify an image, I may as well post a note.

It was a decent day. I sold and delivered two refurbished ThinkPad laptops. Local sales. Both people chose Windows, not Linux.

Right now I am upgrading a ThinkPad T420 of a long time customer. Still a good laptop, if a person's needs are not too demanding. Upgraded from 4GB 10600 to 16GB of PC3L 12800. Converted Windows 10 from MBR to GPT partition scheme. Fixed Windows errors with sfc (System File Checker). Now backing everything up with a CloneZilla image before I attempt to upgrade to Windows 11. That way, if something major goes wrong, I can restore it to how it was.

It has been quite a few years since I tried Ventoy. I had some troubles with it not working consistently, so I stopped using it.

I should give it another try. Thanks for the reminder.

I believe a way to do it is also run your own relay that you haven't published anywhere, so no one is reading notes from it but you and others testing.

Writing a Void Linux .iso to a USB drive right now.

Crypto-currencies have the potential to really change what has been called "the creator economy".

Louis Rossman and others have said that having viewers donate a quarter ($0.25) per year would give them more revenue than they get from the advertisement revenue share from Youtube.

However, for small transactions, the processing fee with a debit or credit card is usually 25 cents plus a percentage. Patreon and others sort of solve this, by having you pay once and can split up between creators you support.

But what if you just want to give a video creator a 25 cent tip for a video you really enjoyed, but don't want to commit to donating again or to anyone else?

This is where crypto-currencies can shine.

Monero and Bitcoin Cash have tiny transaction fees, usually less than one penny. So it can make sense to send someone even 10 cents at a time.

Not very ladylike.

An MSI AM5 motherboard arrived today at my workshop. I look forward to testing a Ryzen 7 7700 CPU in it soon.

I've bought things with it, skipping fiat.

However, most people probably just buy it with fiat and then later sell it for fiat (or lose their private key or access to their account on an exchange).

Feel free to commentate on this, as not all of us know what this means or how to interpret the parts that we do know.

It is probably noteworthy that Monero has more than half the nodes that Bitcoin does, despite not having the name recognition that Bitcoin has.

I will be delivering a refurbished ThinkPad T14 laptop to a customer today.
