"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." H. L. Mencken, 1921

Human beings have used 50% of world's forest for their survival. You cannot survive without using resources. Energy is life. Recycle paper and throw plastic in the trash, or burn it as fuel.

Human wellbeing > "Gaia"

Or it could simply be a pinned note? Just broadcast which note you want to see pinned to your profile. Client could show it as an Edit operation but it would actually just be a new note and new tag indicating that it be pinned to your profile.

Sounds like markdown might work, though i've not tried it before. Could we simply allow images to be rendered inline in the "About" section without any new NIPs?

What about OpenOffice format? Would be super cool to compose resume in open office and dump it into a note.

I replied to nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn that my dream for nostr is that you only ever have to share your npub and then you can find everything on that person in that way. The number of nostr apps is going bananas, which is awesome, but I also think its confusing. I would like nostr clients and the nostr network to move towards the html and internet browsers approach where a client is a general purpose program that can render all types of content relatively correctly. I want to drop my nostr npub on linkedin like its a URL.

Come to think of it, npubs should show up as clickable hyperlinks in internet browsers. Can we get firefox or others to support this?

GN. Thanks for the reply.

I haven't used markdown, but as long as there are little buttons to add bullets and I can bold and manipulate font size and also embed pictures then I think that would be great! Yeah, i don't think it needs to be a new kind (though I'm no dev and I don't use nostr constantly so i'm sure my understanding of this all is not quite right) but here is my vision, and I think nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft would agree: It's all about the NPUB baby!! πŸ˜„

All you should have to do is share your npub, in the same way that now we share a URL for a browser. You should be able to share your npub and anyone can drop it into their nostr client (let's just call it 'browser' like for the internet) and you can see all their activity, whether its short or long text, and their about section, if you choose to open it is their proper About landing page which could be a mini little website basically. Doesn't need to have any layers beneath, but we should have the ability to format text and embed pictures and hyperlinks out. (Also, all you should need to provide to receive payments from anyone in the world is your npub as well. npub to rule them all!!)

I want to fucking delete my linkedin and create a new npub with my true identity and just use that going forward. I am nostr only at this point... and quite bullish!

(btw, i glanced at my phone earlier and noticed more replies but for some reason I can only see two replies here on noStrudel and also on Coracle.)

Why cant the About section in our profiles become a micro webpage that is kinda a mini LinkedIn? I want to be able to do bulletpoints and have it load images. nostr:npub1ye5ptcxfyyxl5vjvdjar2ua3f0hynkjzpx552mu5snj3qmx5pzjscpknpr nostr:npub16c0nh3dnadzqpm76uctf5hqhe2lny344zsmpm6feee9p5rdxaa9q586nvr nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z

Come to think of it, why cant we just put HTML into the about section too?

Security autists need to stop scaring newbies off. Anyone can write down a seed phrase with pencil and paper and put it away with their other important documents. And thats good enough for most people.

Social is more important than private to most people. Keep leaning into nostr!

Definitely too confusing still.

I think Sends should only be either "Public" or "Private." (Or alternatively could be called "Nostr Public Zap" and "Nostr Private DM Zap" or something like that, to make it a little more clear.) Public should be the default, and should be a public nostr zap. Private should be a private nostr zap.

I just think Mutiny should lean into nostr completely, and make the experience exactly like Venmo or Cashapp, where people assume there is some degree of payment activity visibility, and ability to comment/coordinate on payments, and also to have somewhat of a 3rd party record of payments so people can see that balances are settled between eachother.

Advanced mode could unlock "Pure Lightning" payment, or something like that.

Also, if the amount being sent is less than 200k then the esats balance should be shown. I still see my sends showing the LN balance.

(Sending this out via Gossip on desktop....) πŸ˜€

From Saifedean Ammous Twitter post. Had to share. Not sure if he's on nostr

"Happy bitcoin halving day!!

For the first time in history, humans have a form of money whose supply increases by less than 1% per year.

This is a big deal because the hardness of our money is a control knob for our time preference: the degree to which we discount the future. The harder the money, the less its supply increases, the better it holds value into the future, the more it allows you to plan and provide for the future, the more you are able to curb your base immediate impulses in favor of rational future orientation.

All human progress and civilization is intertwined with us finding harder moneys. From cattle to salt to seashells to metals to precious metals, we've constantly progressed by moving to the harder money, allowing us more reliable ways for providing for the future, making us more future-oriented. This culminated with gold becoming the whole world's only money by the end of the 19th century, with annual supply growth of ~2%. Everyone on Earth could save in gold without fear of inflation.

A century of human catastrophe followed when governments banned the monetary use of gold & replaced it with their fiat credit, whose supply increases at ~14% per year. Saving became unattainable and the future more uncertain. Time preference rose as people became more present-oriented, and governments had infinite spending power at the expense of their serfs. Wars became longer and more likely with governments able to rob their citizens effortlessly to finance them.

Bitcoin fixes this. Not only does bitcoin allow us a form of money outside government control, it's also the hardest money to ever exist, making it the most advanced form of money ever, better than even gold. No matter what happens, you can be sure your bitcoin will never be diluted by more than 1% per year.

I discuss these ideas in more detail in my books:"

And The Fiat Standard:

That's really something, first time in history!
