The statement by U.S. Vice President JD Vance was very poorly received in the United Kingdom. In a recent interview, Vance criticized the British and French initiative to send soldiers as part of a peacekeeping force in Ukraine to prevent another attack from Putin. He stated that "...there’s no point in sending soldiers from random countries that haven’t fought in 30 or 40 years...," dismissing the hundreds of British soldiers killed and the thousands wounded in the many wars they have fought alongside the U.S. over the past 35 years.

Today's Daily Express front page reads: "Clown Vance' slanders 636 war heroes."

Donald Trump did not stop at merely prohibiting the Pentagon from sharing intelligence data with Ukraine; he also banned the United Kingdom and any other country that receives intelligence related to Russia obtained through American means. The goal is to completely "blind" Ukraine to Russian movements.

The United Kingdom and France have their own means of gathering intelligence, but they are obviously more limited, meaning this blockade will impact Ukraine's ability to prepare for defense against Russian attacks.

In yesterday’s speech to Congress, President Trump covered various topics over the course of 1 hour and 40 minutes. Among them, he emphasized his interest in regaining control of the Panama Canal, whose administration was transferred to Panama in 1999 after 86 years of American control.

Additionally, he mentioned Greenland, stating that the U.S. needs to control the region for "national and international security reasons." Trump declared that he wants the Greenlandic people to decide their own future but added that the U.S. will take control of Greenland "one way or another."

In yesterday's speech, President Trump mentioned the letter sent by President Zelensky, in which he once again stated that Ukraine wants to negotiate peace. In the letter, Zelensky noted that this peace must come with "security guarantees" to prevent further attacks from Putin, but Trump did not mention that part.

President Trump also said that Ukraine remains willing to sign the minerals agreement, something Zelensky has been saying since Friday, when he was expelled from the White House by Trump.

In the end, Trump stated that he had "serious discussions with Russia" and that they received strong signals that Russia "is ready for peace."

"If war is what the U.S. wants—be it a tariff war, a trade war, or any other kind of war—we are ready to fight to the end," said a statement from the Chinese embassy in the U.S. in response to American accusations that China is not doing enough to stop the smuggling of fentanyl into the U.S.

On this day in 1953, Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin died at the age of 74.

On February 28, Stalin gathered his inner circle for a night of music, food, and drinks. Among those present were Lavrentiy Beria, Nikita Khrushchev, Georgy Malenkov, and Vyacheslav Molotov. The gathering ended at 5 a.m. on March 1, a Sunday, with Khrushchev noting in his diary that Stalin had drunk heavily and was in high spirits as he retired to his quarters.

Unusually, Stalin did not have breakfast nor request lunch or dinner, but his staff, who feared him deeply, only dared to enter his room at 11 p.m. that Sunday, finding him unconscious on the floor in a pool of urine.

In a state of panic and unsure of what to do, the household staff took hours to inform Beria of the situation, and doctors only examined Stalin at 7 a.m. on March 2. According to the medical report, Stalin suffered a stroke as a result of his history of high blood pressure. He had previously experienced a minor stroke and a heart attack.

Despite efforts to save him, Stalin died on March 5 at 9:50 p.m., triggering an internal power struggle.

A system of "collective leadership" was established, initially led by Georgy Malenkov, but he was soon forced to cede power, and Nikita Khrushchev rose to the top position in the party a few months later.

Stalin went down in history as one of the most brutal and bloodthirsty dictators, with historians estimating that around 2 million people were executed by direct order of his office. When considering deaths from targeted extermination policies, such as the Ukrainian Holodomor, the penal colony system known as the Gulag, and forced deportations, the number exceeds 10 million victims.

A very comedic film that portrays the dictator’s death is "The Death of Stalin". Despite being a comedy and exaggerating many aspects, it effectively captures the atmosphere of fear that prevailed in the Soviet Union and the power struggle that immediately followed his death.
