Tensions Between Pakistan and India Escalate After Kashmir Attack

A devastating terrorist attack in Kashmir, which left over 26 Indian nationals and tourists dead, has pushed Pakistan and India—two nuclear-armed neighbors—to the brink of war.

In the wake of the attack, both countries have urged their citizens to evacuate the other’s territory immediately. Pakistan has announced a suspension of trade with India, while India has taken the drastic step of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, a crucial agreement governing the shared use of the region’s river systems.

India’s Prime Minister has vowed to “pursue terrorists to the ends of the earth,” signaling a hardline stance. Air-raid sirens are currently sounding across Ukraine, as a large-scale missile and drone attack by Russia appears to be underway against the capital of Kyiv and other cities throughout the country.
