Some have commented on how some Masaajid pray taraaweeh longer than others, and have also even criticised others for making it short and ‘manageable’. The idea is that, the longer you pray, the better, and if you’re praying shorter, then it’s almost like ‘simply ticking a box’ ✅ that you’ve done it.

No, not necessarily. The prophet said to mu’aath when he was leading Salah and making it long “do you want to cause fitna for the people oh mu’aath?” And he ordered him to make the salaah short.

We often think that “with more difficulty comes more reward” but that’s actually not Islamic teachings. Islam teaches to have patience when difficulty occurs, but not to make life more complicated and difficult. When it comes to Islamic affairs with the public, where we have people at various levels of physical and mental ability, what’s required is to go for what is best for most people; not what’s best for some people.

So a taraaweeh that 80% of ppl can handle is better than one where 40% can handle. I mean, that’s literally why the prophet stopped praying Qiyaam Al Layl on the third day, because he wanted to make it easy for the ppl and feared it would become mandatory. That says a lot. So if he stopped a good thing in order to make it easy for the ppl, that means making things easy is more important than what he was doing, which was praying.

We have many examples from the lives of the sahaabah and the prophet where he would constantly tell people to not go overboard. One sahaabiyah used to tie rope to the ceiling so that she could use it when she got tired to help her stand longer. The prophet saw that and told her not to do that, but to simply stop praying if she gets tired. Salman faarisee told Abu Dardaa to stop praying, stop fasting because he was going overboard. Ie more wasn’t more.

Lastly, not all the scholars say long standing is better. Some of them say “many short rak’ah is better then fewer long owns”

I personally don’t think there’s anything to criticise about the way taraaweeh is performed in Muslim countries. If anything, the opposite.

The prophet said

يسِّروا ولا تعسروا

“Make the religion easy and don’t make it hard”

That’s a verbal command, which takes precedence over anything he personally did in action.

I’ve gotten solid feedback on this episode of nostr:npub10qrssqjsydd38j8mv7h27dq0ynpns3djgu88mhr7cr2qcqrgyezspkxqj8 with nostr:npub13ndpm2hm9hud4azsq5euhf5mv3d05r90wymwxsd7rdn29609hhvqp60svh (and of course some saying they didn’t like it one bit).

I’ve learned that the vast majority of Bitcoiners just want moonboi Bitcoin NGU hopium mixed with macro death-of-the-dollar doom porn. How do I know this? Because I see which episodes get the most traction. Bitcoiners may say they want “different guests and opinions” on Bitcoin podcasts, but their actions tell a very different story… The numbers are clear. That’s why even though Saylor has done 69,420 podcasts and everyone has listened to countless hours of him, the majority of people will still watch any new Saylor conversation over some lesser-known person. This isn’t a dig on Saylor, it’s just reality.

That said, if you are one of the minority of Bitcoiners who enjoys having your preconceived notions challenged, and have the ability to approach uncomfortable topics with an open mind, I encourage you to check out this conversation with John. nostr:note1fvl8j0z6saesc7jx329cp4rqvgfu6pevfwtrvwsw50udmtc0czssjylvf5

I listened to the full episode. Imo perfection doesn’t exist, everything involves trade-offs. Whether BTC is called money or not, it’s the best close to money we have right now.

# 10: Bitcoin’s Price Discovery — Subjectivity vs. Fiat Price Controls

💡 Key Idea: Bitcoin’s volatile price reflects true market discovery — millions of individuals freely valuing a scarce asset. This clashes with fiat systems, where central banks manipulate prices (interest rates, bond yields) to mask economic reality.

🌍 Real-World Example:

In 2023, Argentina capped beef prices to “fight inflation.” Result? Shortages, black markets, and more inflation. Meanwhile, Bitcoin’s price swings — though jarring — transparently signal global demand for sound money. Even in chaos (e.g., Nigeria’s naira crash), Bitcoin’s open markets let users exit failing currencies, bypassing state lies.

📜 Austrian Connection: Ludwig von Mises called price controls “dictatorial interference” that distorts resource allocation. Hayek stressed prices are knowledge — aggregated from decentralized choices. Bitcoin’s global, 24/7 trading floors (no Fed put, no bailouts) embody this: its price is pure, unfiltered market truth.

⚡ Why It Matters: Central planners “stabilize” fiat by eroding purchasing power (e.g., negative real rates). Bitcoin’s volatility is the price of freedom: a market-driven money, honest about uncertainty, rewarding long-term conviction over short-term manipulation.

🔍 Food for Thought: If price is the language of the market, does Bitcoin’s wild price action scream distrust in fiat… or hope for a new paradigm?
