Will was getting a lot of zaps that were helping with the cost. Since the people who were zapping him were mostly damus users that meant his zaps dried up.

The fact that fedi is a money sink is definitely one of the reasons it hasn't been more successful.

It seems like both bluesky and threads are already winning over fedi already.

I'd pay for it if a single relay could aggregate the content of all my current relays, and nostr had more than 4 ppl who talk about things other than buttcoin.

People are actually, that’s why the #grownostr hashtag is about. Why not just run your own relay though?

Some providers have rolled other services like nip05 (I believe this is how you get a trusted pubkey) and ln addresses as a package deal. I think finding valuable ways to draw people into paid ecosystems may end up being necessary even if it's only a small % that actually do take it up. I saw the damus relay may close because Tim Apple dezapped them.

Is the Damus relay involved in that drama? But you can get a free nip05 so I don’t see how that adds value. Look at fedi, most ppl don’t make money running stuff.

Yet another reason to not be a wage slave and to put your assets into trusts owned by LLC companies. There are ways, but also ways for motivated entities and agencies to pierce the veil of privacy. It’s a matter of making discovery effortful, expensive, and difficult.

You could maybe get away with hiding crypto assets if you literally never spend or convert them to cash. But then what’s the point?

Nostr has encrypted DMs so that can’t really happen here. But there are new extensions like nos2x so clients can’t hypothetically steal your nsec.

Depends what you mean by worth it lol. It’s hard to compare it to nostr tbh, there are a lot more tech nerds there, sort of. It’s definitely not like nostr that is so focused on one thing (bitcoin obv). Otoh nostr does seem to have more normal ppl.

That's another thing Inoticesd. Like one third of the ones I added already shut down. Some were paid relays too I think? I never paid anyone anything so I don't think it worked lol.

I’m curious what that means, did ppl just give up on nostr or..? The user numbers seem p steady. If ppl think it’s going to be profitable to run a relay then they’re a bit retarded.

Damus had to remove zaps on the App Store because it breached their tos or something, ppl were mad about that and it even got a bit of media attention. There was some p big fedi drama tho lol.

Democratic socialists always get gulaged when the revolution comes.

"Democratic socialism has never been tried". Both India and Israel were founded as democratic socialist states and both gave up that ideology.

The problems with post soviet Russia and the current USA are the democracy part, not capitalism. Huge amounts of govt corruption waved away with talk of "our sacred democracy". Countries like China and Vietnam that have retained authoritarian govt but introduced capitalist market reforms have lifted huge swathes of their people out of poverty.
