Building Nestr - The Nostr alternative to GitHub Sail the high seas. KYC is the illicit activity. npub1u9e887ad8pl49cxgzqkuljxcxy89dtac7jkyuajnukxg6hu2hufqdjdsp7 <-- old profile

Urbit avoided the problem of spam profiles by restricting Urbit IDs to 32 bit numbers and attaching a cost to each one...on the Ethereum blockchain.

I'll choose ReplyGuys over that solution any day.

More like

Nostr devs have ReplyGuy

Bitcoin devs have the Federal Prosecutor of the United States

Probably will, yes. If the problem must surface sooner or later, why not fix it sooner?

The predatory practices of the evil corps in the social media landscape

Nostr reply spam and DDoS are very different. I think of the former as a gray hat disclosing a security vulnerability in the open, forcing devs to patch. The latter helps no one since it only eats resources. DDoS can't be outsmarted, reply spam can and should be.

I wonder if there'll be a huge asymmetry between defense lawyers' AI tools and the tools that state level and big corp prosecution can utilise in their attacks against open source devs in the future.

"According to Rodriguez’ lawyer, the volume of discovery material was equivalent to “75% of the Library of Congress,” and that if printed out, the stacked paper would reach from Earth to the Moon and back – 22 times."

Might be a good idea to have a bank you're willing to burn if they get nosey or start restricting your Bisq transfers. But once you have a truly permissionless private setup I can guarantee you'll never want to go back 🍻 Now is a good time to start using Bisq too since they have lightning now

If your Nostr web client doesn't have Web of Trust based feeds to fight spam, start here:

Really not doing yourself any favours here Alex. Think of this as someone disclosing a critical security vuln in 99% of the apps in an app store. Some apps won't patch until forced to do so. Pure white hat reporting just wouldn't work. And like others have said, this spam could be much worse if truly malicious.
