It's not a solution, but it's one of the tools at a users disposal. Relay selection can make or break usability of Nostr. For example, a relay that blindly accepts notes from new virgin pubkeys can be easily misused for spam. For me, by removing a single relay I cut out almost all of the airdrop reply spam.
Depends on the trade-offs, in some aspects Mastodon is better, in some aspects Nostr is better. It's perfectly fine to have a different choice depending on your preferences.
Become ungovernable

They have different tradeoffs. I like the model of Nostr more because the underlying protocol is super simple. Anyone with the slightest programming experience can build stuff for it. It's almost as simple as writing a Hello World exercise.
That level of simplicity makes it possible to build a large variety of experiences on top of the protocol, that - in my opinion - is not possible on Mastodon, Bluesky or other open networks.
No, the difference is setup and client. Apparently my setup hides the spammer, yours does not. So, the protocol can definitely work, but as I said before, some clients might be lacking or needs a bit more work to set up in a satisfactory fashion.
If you want the protocol not to work, you sure can. But you can also make the protocol work. It's a choice. And yes, this is more work compared to using a platform, as you outsource that work to the platform overlords. The price you pay for the liberation of platform overlords is that you - and only yourself - have to take on that extra work to make it usable for you.
If you've been deplatformed before, you know which choice is more valuable.

Listening to the Ordinals episode of the bitcoin review podcast, how can you be against Drivechains and promote Ordinals? They have the same eternal shitcoin incentive misalignment. They are the same thing.
GM touch grass today

If you mute enough advertisers on Twitter you get to the real gems.

Not your descriptors, not your multi-sig.
I'm not, they're making a PR shit show. If they just answer the questions, instead of whatever they think they're doing now.
More choice, more competition is a good thing, especially if they differentiate. But they are not the second coming of Christ as a mining pool, they have some good things but also trade-offs, as with everything.
Saying transparency and not doing transparent communication is a huge turn-off.
I'm fine with whatever they do, filter ordinals, be minimally custodial instead of non-custodial, etc. but be clear about it. Currently they are not.
They make the heat themselves. I have no idea why they would hide questions like this.
