Now that my daughter is enrolled at the University of Florida, this will be our first Florida vs Florida State rivalry game. She is home for Thanksgiving, so we are hosting a watch party!

Public libraries evoke something unique in each of us: perhaps it's a cherished memory of a favorite story-time from childhood, the convenience of free digital books through Libby, engaging Summer Reading programs, charming Bookmobiles, or simply a peaceful hideaway for reading and studying.

After a substantial snowfall the previous night, I found myself hustling alongside our maintenance team to clear the snow from the parking lot and sidewalks. Several patrons had already gathered near the entrance or were waiting patiently in their cars. A gentleman who had made the effort to walk through the tricky conditions approached me, worried that we might be closed today. I happily assured him we would open as usual. His relief was evident, and when we finally opened our doors, a small crowd eagerly made their way inside.

Moments like these remind me of our library's vital role in the community—serving as a warm haven, a safe space, and a welcoming refuge for all. These understated services we provide offer essential support to many of our neighbors who may be facing challenges. I feel genuinely fortunate to have a career where I can make a meaningful difference. While it's easy to lose sight of our purpose in our day-to-day routines, today served as a heartwarming reminder of why we do what we do, and I will continue to be grateful for libraries!
