• Me and you are talking... you are being a belligerent asshat and screaming at me. I walk away or shut the door so I don't have to listen to you anymore. [mute/block]

• Me and you are talking... we want to have a conversation about something controversial but we are at a dinner party in someone else's house. They ask us to leave. [banned from relay]

––– not technically censorship, but getting into an area where an outside party is controlling the conversation. Unfortunately the architecture of the internet makes this an increasingly difficult grey area.

• Me and you are talking... 10s of millions of people have all gone to the same "house" with millions of conversations & where each person explicitly chooses to receive messages and posts from a self-curated list of people. The state, funded by all of us and external both to any and all conversations being had, plus not an owner or stake holder in the house, threatens the host with shutting it down or fines if they do not put tape over our mouths so we cannot speak... specifically we cannot speak about how corrupt this external party is. [Social media censorship]

What it sounds like is building the equivalent of an xpriv.

You’d probably need some sort of offline signing device to do this like the Bitcoin wallets institute. The master key needs to live “somewhere”.

On the web clients the NIP-07 carry the nsec and only takes in data to sign, never exposing the private key.

I’m not an iOS expert and don’t know how you’d do this with a native app.

Yesterday i witnessed someone accidentally share his nsec. It wasn’t the first time i saw this. 😔

It kept me busy because this can destroy all the reputation you built up in one single moment. 💥

And almost always it is because the nsec is still in the clipboard and you paste it accidentally. 📋

Fortunately in damus there will be a warning when you try to share an nsec. ⚠️

But to make it a little more less likely to share it by mistake, i have splitten up my nsec in 3 parts in the location i stored it. So i will never have the whole nsec in my clipboard. ✂️

Maybe consider doing this too to make it a little safer. 🔐

You mean what nostr clients allow you to generate NIP-26 tokens while being offline right now?

None that I knew of, tbh.

Ok, let's see it with an example:

Initial situation:

- you have a nostr client using a keypair.

- you want to use another nostr client but you don't want to assume the risk of introducing the privkey in the new client.

Here comes NIP-26 to help:

- you log in the new client with a brand new keypair (ideally the new client guides you to create this new keypair automatically)

- you create a token in the first nostr client, signed by the original privkey, that allows the new privkey to publish events on behalf of the original privkey (with some limits: event kinds, time, etc)

- you configure the delegation in the new client introducing the token.

- you can now publish from the new client signing with the new keypair, on behalf of the original keypair (the published event includes the token so that everybody can check that it's allowed)
