Because, most of the time when you get going it’s pretty fun right? Maybe you even remember procrastinating then, when you get working, thinking “I have so many cool ideas now if only I’d started sooner I would have time to try them out!”
Don’t want to start a new task, don’t want to change gears feels easier, right? What do you think?

They also need to keep stringing creative people along making content for them. Content that works with the way that they want to serve ads.
That way a YouTube channel with the best most interesting, high production value, creative videos in the world will never do well if those videos are on a wide range of diverse topics (too hard to determine the demographics) or if you don't upload regularly (no predictable content source to show people something new when they stop by)

I think this is the only healthy way to view it. And the only way that will protect your content from being degraded and "YouTubified" --

I've also heard of people paying up to this extortion and even then not seeing their views recover.

Just like Elon & his blue checks. I don't know how people tolerate being in a system where some people can simply purchase the ability to better dominate the conversation.
Another issue is right wing groups with more money than sense buy ads for their videos and put them on LGBTQ and POC creators channels as a form of low-grade harassment of these audiences. It *is* possible to block certain ads from your videos.

I'm in the US but I think you probably have IKEA there too. They make shelves that are braced by a pole bolted to the ceiling and floor that are great for this application.
The downside to this kind of shelf is needing tons of bookend to hold your books up.
We made walls of books, creating a room within our large formerly open plan living room. Had it for 15 years now, still love it.

I think the point is to keep you guessing is what I'm saying. Never let your sense of worth or pride in your work get tied to that stuff. There is no correlation.

Thumbnails do seem to matter more than they ought to. Put a human face with an intense emotional expression "reacting" in the thumbnail and a picture that raises a question "what's in the mysterious cave" -- an ambiguous image that people will want to see more clearly... that stuff "works"
But why does it work? Because it's better communication, and better represents the video? Or because someone decided that it works and so those who do it get boosted? Who knows!
It reminds me of standardized testing.
Why say "like and subscribe" ? Because the data from YouTube proves that when people ask they get more likes. Having a lots of likes means a video is going to be popular. If YouTube determines that a video "will" be popular then it does things... that *make* it popular.
(The people who do well on this test go to the best schools that's why we let them in to the best schools.)

This is the 3rd time I've seen someone who makes YouTube videos go mad trying to second guess "the algorithm."
YouTube provides creators with a firehose of data: How long people watch, when they stop watching, the distribution of views.
YouTube also sometimes selects videos using a secret, unknowable algorithm to be "promoted." For small and medium creators this is a huge deal and the difference between 500 views and 500,000.
For self-critical analytical minds it's a toxic combination. 1/

Last night my husband asked "When do you think we'll see serious action on climate change in the US?"
We thought about it together & decided if we have a summer where it's hot & the power goes out for a week & in more than one major metro area that isn't in a generally hot region-- then... then maybe people will get it.
