I'm glad that the Trump organization is being held to account for their years of lies but does anyone really think they would have ever got such proper scrutiny if not for Trump breaking the entire country?

We should hold all wealthy and unscrupulous organizations to account all of the time. Not doing so instructs them towards further willful ignorance of the law and given the means they wield at last puts us all in danger.

Most problem sets avoid this stuff and if a student isn’t playing with notation on their own I can understand the confusion.

I heard something about another case, a NSA guy was posting military secrets on a discord server? Just for the "clout" and conspiracies. The guy is in a world of trouble and can't afford a private lawyer.

But, I recall some commentator saying that he might get a "special expert" public defender because the case was "so complicated"

But I took from this the subtext that he would get a better lawyer because everyone is watching and he's a "nice young man" what do you think?

I wonder if being more candid about these pressures might help. Excising the arrogance? “If I were to give a simple answer I would say just do X, it is of course more complex than that and here is how. Etc.”

Because of what Unity did I’m even more put off than before about hosting a game dev club. When I was young we all wanted to make games it seemed glamorous. Young people now wisely say “I’ll just write a good story someone else can make the game” it’s seen as drudge work (rightly)

Software presents an educational hazard. I just found out about the new “ideas” from Unity and feel bad for all the people who invested their time learning that software and trapping their creative work in its framework. If your app isn’t trivial and you need people to learn it and generate content for free they need to be able to distribute their work on a modest scale.

What I’m saying here is basically that #investors are often not invested at all. Many would be horrified by the ‘work’ their money has enabled. Or disgusted with the frivolous and intrinsically fraudulent character of some of the corporate projects they have enabled; this system so designed as to make exploitative extraction, liquidation mines and pure con jobs not just easy, but inevitable.

I’m not so naive to suggest no joint ventures or limited liability. It’s true sometimes people have a good idea, but no money— a goal of great expense, raising capital to make it happen then is only right.

I wish simply there was more care for the creatures we choose to embody— a need not just to raise money but also to earn trust of a quorum ready to take responsibility for the monster. No more illusions of magic boxes where one would place a sum of money at night & find it increased by dawn.

Money spent buying things is good for an economy & even stands a chance of increasing egalitarianism. Money invested is far more chaotic— When people run out of things to buy they must invest. When invested in you must shape your actions to serve the imagined bottom line. Perhaps enacting cruelty that you’d never bother with for your own money.
