I think the risk of generalizing history as a static figure is that it erases the nature of conflict and struggle which is indicated by shifts in law & order. For example the Gilded Age gave us robber barons that rose to industrial age monopolies hoarding government contracts through monopolies before getting dropped by new antitrust laws regulating anticompetitive practices. Power got centralized into the hands of a few and then got divided by a government that expanded regulation to protect the free market. Today anticompetitive practices like Musk interfering in Verizon’s FAA contract mirror that centralization of power into private hands, and implied antitrust laws need to progress its language to meet Information Age needs so we can transition the hands holding power again.

I think as late as 2015 the GOP still had some semblance of principles and internal diversity. After MAGA hijacked their party it became an organized patriarchal white-supremacist nationalist movement to weaken democratic mechanisms preventing authoritarianism. Moderate conservatives still exist but they’ve been deplatformed. Establishment democrats have done something similar to left-wing citizens but unlike MAGA they have no platform of voters to run on or an agenda beyond re-elections.

We used to have complex issues with organically diverse opinions. Now we just have blatant unanimously organized anti-egalitarianism built on reductionist aesthetics and self-interest vs folks who just give a fuck about people #politics #philosophy #tech #futurist #technologist
