If the EU had its way, self-custody, the Lightning Network, and any type of transaction obfuscation - including coinjoins - would soon be illegal in the EU.
#ChatControl is the first step in building compliance for a totalitarian mass-surveillance regime, in which none of your digital communications can be kept safe.
Chat Control is set to be greenlit by the EU tomorrow. It aims to establish the voluntary-in-name-only scanning of all digital messaging, from dating apps to E2EE messengers on your phone to automatically report suspicious activity to the police.
If providers choose to opt-out of chat control, users will be prohibited from sending photo and video content – because think of the children – Greatly impacting our freedom to communicate without having all of our messages scanned.
Here's what you can do. Sway votes for Chat Control include Italy, Greece, Portugal, Finland, Slovenia, Estonia, and the Czech Republic. Contact your EU representatives today and let them know what you think of their mass-surveillance plans (you can do so by email).
Chat Control needs to be stopped, or it will only get worse from here.
