If you're going to have a trending blocklist, make it visible somewhere in the settings and allow the user to remove that block client side
and a restriction that is almost invisible
pubkey and any mechanism anywhere that prevents events from being seen that was not explicitly defined by the current logged in account (mute)
Any client that shadowbans users should not be taken seriously

Need to do in binary format instead of inside JSON
IMO nostr clients should allow block but should just simply collapse posts that the creator blocked instead of pretending that they don't exist
