Foundation does care about design, but their style is not my thing. Feels 2010 ornamental. I’m a River customer and agree their design and UI is solid, but their branding and vibe is a little flat. I forgot about Blockstream but I do like their branding and design work a lot. Probably the first Bitcoin company with great design work.
Coinkite is my favorite of all Bitcoin brands, but they don’t make apps (which is also a great design decision).
Great design builds trust. This was my mantra as head of design at my company, it’s my mantra in working on my Bitcoin app. Ironically, Bitcoin is about trust minimization but that doesn’t mean Bitcoin doesn’t need trusted brands for products and services.
What are your favorite Bitcoin apps from a design standpoint? Unfortunately I don’t have any that meet my standard. Strike is pretty good. Bitkey is also high end since Block makes it. I can’t think of one made by a small team that’s world class in terms of design and branding. This is what I’m gonna go for, we’ll see.
It is unfortunate but all the money is in shitcoins so all their apps look high end. Many design agencies have feasted on shitcoins and web3 nft garbage the last 5 years.
We are definitely headed toward the world of “single serving apps” but I think for the next 5-10 years there will still be demand for curated software.
At least I’m betting on that with the app I’m making.
Your sentiment is shared by a lot of people. Nostr began its initial adoption from the Bitcoin community leaving Twitter to use nostr. So naturally there’s a huge amount of Bitcoin enthusiasm here and people are focused on zaps and heavy Bitcoin integration. Nostr is much bigger than a bitcoin community but it will be some time before that’s realized. I wouldn’t focus on the monetization you’re seeing, it’s not the point it’s just a feature.
Right now nostr is completely captured by bitcoin culture. It’s 99% of all conversation when browsing the universe.
Bringing people in won’t be as challenging as keeping them here.
Once UX is improved and there’s a way for other community types to be seeded there won’t be any needed effort needed for a user base to surge.
