not been super active on here for the past few days. i do have more friends over on the Fediverse so it feels a little warmer and friendlier still.

if this was the Fediverse, there would be, but no Nostr clients appear to have a "Mute conversation" option

as i understand it, having one of those installed is fairly common. and the next most common extension would be a Lightning wallet that does a similar thing for authorising payments for zaps.

there are plenty of Nostr users out there already, so why even join. i'm redundant, right? 😛

You Don't Impress Me Much

it's not unreasonable to pay about the same rate for a writer or video editor as you do for a plumber or carpenter. it's going to be a bit steep. but they're compensating for taxation, fees, lulls in jobs coming in, etc. there is zero job security if you're freelancing, working as an independent contractor, or as a CEO.

your employer is only providing you with an illusion of income security so you don't have to worry about it. "everyone else" DOES have to worry though. employees are a bit sheltered like that.

if the post hits the 40k zaps goal, and i write this article, i'll probably get far less than $20 per hour. it's more likely to take me half a workday - 4 hours. ordinary wages are at $15-20/hr in many countries. freelancer/contractor wages are higher due to the lack of income security.

is this a big ask? not really. 40k sats is only 11 USD at the current exchange rate. i actually made a miscalculation and should have asked for 80k. i was aiming at $20/hr. but i posted it and can't correct it. so i'll do it anyway. i'm from a high-income country. it's not much money at all. the Satoshi is a very small unit. $20/hr is low pay for a freelancer.

give this post 40k sats if you want me to write a good blog article about how to set up an account on Nostr, explain what to keep in mind, common beginner's mistakes to avoid, and provide a good introduction to Nostr for beginners.

this advice won't work for the ladies, but if you're gentlemen: the size of your wallet tends to work a bit like your scrotum: it expands or shrinks depending on the weather. it manages.

there is some legacy from the crypto world there. first Bitcoin conference i ever went to was in the Canary Islands. it was tiny too. but Bitcoin type people just wanna have events in fanciful locations in my experience.

it's not much, but if you find yourself with little, little is often sufficient.

i've not been on stage too many times, but the times i did that, the audience seemed to enjoy it.

one time, i was trying to give a presentation at a startup seminar and i was just being me and people found me funny.

the other time, i was playing the piano, and a girl came up to talk to me, and a musician wanted to offer me advice on how to become a professional.

i like when people respond so i do that kind of stuff.

i'm flexible as for the theme of the talk. i'm not always the best judge of what might catch on, so if the arrangers of Nostrica 2.0 want to provide some input there, i might be able to cook something up

if you are arranging a Nostr conference, it wouldn't hurt to invite me to the panel. if you know my Nostr account, you'll know i'm anything but boring. if necessary, i'll wear a fun hat and play the piano at the evening jam session, and maybe even cook some good meals.

i'm not seeing multiple stages in screenshots from the Nostrica livestream either, so all the talks are apparently happening in a single room that seems about classroom-sized, and classrooms usually fit about 20-30 people.
