Paid Relays will be with us in some shape or form for as long as they cost money to build and run.

Indeed, a proliferation of 10,000 paid relays in places that allow freedom of speech is very decentralised and censorship resistant.

The problem there is "finding the relays I need", but that's probably just a tools issue, based on Location, Moderation Policy, Fee structure, Community Served by the Relay, Language "Welsh relay", that sort of thing.

I personally suspect that relay size will end up following a power law in which a lot of small relays serve to keep the Google/Apple/Amazon Relay honest, in that if the big relays get too rule bound, people just en mass sort of pick a smaller one and go there.

What I actually wanted to create was a wiki page where people could add relays, so people could go to it and find the right ones for them based on location, price, moderation policy, and rules.

I find it does freeze and I often have to hit relaod and this evening my global is stuck, but I put it all down to teething problems and their hardware getting hammered.

On Snort the blue tick is NIP05 - basically, have proven human by paying sats. Though Derek Ross is busy cancelling spammers who are buying NIP05s, even though they are not yet paying for paid relays.

ALL relays can surveil. The free ones are trying ways to combat spam. Asking for money is effective. Later, relays will implement local policies. Disney AUP will be different to Playboy or TrumpTown.

Nostr doesn't censor, because anyone can run a relay. But relays can, and will censor. If only to stay legal in their location.

If Russians, Or Chinese, or Belarusians in uniforms and guns are at least threatening you, you're probably doing the right thing.

Risky. Accidents, brain injury can happen at any time. If you have a long life and get any kind of dementia... What would be the consequences of losing that access? Minor? Fine. Huge? Plan B's are good :-)

Seems I blew through my budget and it didn't stop....so, I guess that's not quite how it works here:-)

Relays : so right now we're all on all, pretty much, but as they get stressed, relays in your country may perform better.

If outside the USA, join your local relays as well. Mine is in London. Or, "London, England" as Hollywood has it :-)
