For anyone in wildfire country, download “Watch Duty”. Great app to keep track of current wildfire incidents. Definitely on iOS but I think Android is available as well. Stay safe, folks.

Pouring one out for our local Colter’s Creek Winery today. One of the many wildfires in the US took out their entire operation and I doubt they will have any chance of recovering economically. I can only hope they had some amount of fire insurance to ease the pain. 😔
The fact that they can even come up with that number is deeply troubling. Ledger live trackers at work.
Impersonation on nostr…. The npub (public key) is the thing that cannot be impersonated. Names and other content can be duplicated, but you have to have the associated private key to sign for a given public key. So Biden would have to have a known public key associated with him.
You’re right that there is still a problem here because even if we had an npub associated with Biden’s presence on a platform like nostr we know that he probably doesn’t even run his own Twitter account. There has to be some incentive to know that the person doing the signing is actually the person associated with the public key. The only way we are going to get there as a society is if people start actually using their public key as an identity to the point that if they give up their key then they are giving away their identity. It would be logical to use a system like this instead of social security numbers, but there obviously isn’t a system in place that would have meaningfully allowed Biden to prove anything today. People complaining are being idealistic
This is what happens when I go on the dead bird site… I get triggered 😂 nostr:note1eu630hcdwwu6cy6vq43z2uq2l2n308aqcs0yp9r23etls5czfaeqlyxqmp
The subset of bitcoiners that are most commonly yelling in politicians ears online are, frankly, embarrassing. Hope I don’t get cancelled for saying this - good thing I’m on nostr.
Perfect snooze spot. #dogstr

Amazing work by nostr:npub1n3sjlzmhpu8rl56umtptc4lua6zkretq2p82yhytnmlcuq639vlqd0te5l and others investigating the demographics of bitcoin holders.

More a personal decision than anything. My current npub went all kinds of sketchy places early on and once there is a more universal, generic way to avoid using the need directly I will probably rotate
Not looking forward to rotating into a new npub that hasn’t been compromised when there are real solutions for putting keys into mobile wallets
What part of her 2019 performance (she didn’t even make it to 2020 in the primary) makes you think that?
Haha! Another perfect example! I’ve never seen a client that lets you attempt to delete a reaction!
nostr:npub1ye5ptcxfyyxl5vjvdjar2ua3f0hynkjzpx552mu5snj3qmx5pzjscpknpr by changing the view source feature, you removed the only Nostr broadcast possibility for wiki pages. 😭
And there's still no way to broadcast articles.
Nobody can see my stuff because my Internet is slow, so it often only writes to one relay.
I honestly can’t believe no one ever created a bare bones client that would do nothing but find all your events (all kinds) and tell you where they have been found and allow you to delete or rebroadcast. Basically would just be a data management client. Would also love to see a server implementation that would just rebroadcast all notes from a pub key
It uses cryptography to sign each event, but each note is just a set of json data about your post that gets signed with your cryptographic key pair. These event blobs just get sent to relays for storage after it’s created on your phone.
All the payments are handled using other protocols (like bitcoin lightning) and then a receipt with payment information gets published as a nostr event - basically just pointing to an actual blockchain.
Not a blockchain, not only crazy right wing folks on here. Keep searching for people to follow that won’t drive you insane!
Welcome!
Yes! I love the zap naming convention but it’s already unsettling to me that some are starting to use it with custodial ecash! Hopefully we can turn that already moving ship
Are these currencies going to go over lightning? The word zap doesn’t make any sense for anything but lightning bitcoin (that includes bitcoin ecash IMO). Users are going to get very confused
I don’t think crowdstrike existed when this unit went in 😂
Of course the AC unit goes out the day before it’s supposed to hit 105 🥵
Is there any event metadata that would allow a client to recognize a post that is picture-focused? I’ve noticed in Nostur that nostr:npub1n0sturny6w9zn2wwexju3m6asu7zh7jnv2jt2kx6tlmfhs7thq0qnflahe is rendering long form differently in the timeline and it looks great. Could imagine a different rendering for pictures that would look cleaner (like instagram) if the client could parse those out
It feels like a limbo contest. Bar keeps dropping and only the person that can drop the lowest will win
I'm working on a project and need your help! Good answers = #zaps
What non-profits are accepting #bitcoin donations and then hodling the bitcoin?
I know of the Human Rights Foundation ( nostr:npub1trr5r2nrpsk6xkjk5a7p6pfcryyt6yzsflwjmz6r7uj7lfkjxxtq78hdpu ) but need your help to find more.
nostr:npub164q45vfa8prpl7f63stsl9qm9n22v6julkasjdqxjc8kevchsj0sp42rl3 may have some solid insights about bitcoin and non-profits
I dont know if these are the comfort level you’re looking for, but I love them and personally don’t sweat in them.
nostr:npub1f6ugxyxkknket3kkdgu4k0fu74vmshawermkj8d06sz6jts9t4kslazcka this is correct. there are established methods to flag graphic content on nostr that posts like this should use
Honestly, we probably shouldn’t even be calling these zaps… there is no lightning involved, right? These should have a nut-related name and clients should probably indicate which mint the nuts are from for the exact reason you point out.
Phone lighting is always hard to tell how dark the crust is, but that looks pretty 👌 I personally take my fattier cuts to a bit higher temp to help render the fats
Friday might work! Will be traveling a bit next week, but then my schedule frees up quite a bit
It sort of depends how you define “replace GitHub”… GitHub serves at least two key purposes for most projects - a server for their got repo and a social layer to manage code changes. This project is only focused on the second purpose, which is where GitHub offers its most distinct features. There are many GitHub alternatives for git servers.
So this project is a stepping stone to completely replacing GitHub, but it can’t replace GitHub on it’s own an the data still needs to be stored on centralized servers somewhere (even if it’s a home server).
Correlation does not equal causation.
Got it. Yeah I hope ecash keeps improving to become a stop gap for the amounts too small to justify a channel open fee, but hope non-custodial lightning keeps improving!
Nice! How does that work without the receiver getting hit with a channel open fee?
Gift 1 presumably must have also been custodial lightning or maybe even better, ecash?
