nostr:npub1l3gpk6vrudg8r67swqlex5alv9ch59s4lw46kk6hekuxe2n3aczsyqvu48 I've always heard GNU Cash is a good accounting software.

nostr:npub1lly3uh3gz24u3cdwvxsmntru4u7m8cu8cclsfsrjkqqpd93wvmzstkjrg5

I've looked at it, but I'd only use it for personal finance unless I were more experienced with it. It's difficult to use something untested (to you) for business purposes.

nostr:npub1l3gpk6vrudg8r67swqlex5alv9ch59s4lw46kk6hekuxe2n3aczsyqvu48 Does using a . txt file on my Linux laptop count?

nostr:npub1a74ryj5gxqtv48q25duvxlru98xjm8jvazws35kw2yjn9p4chsvqygu9xf

That works for me, but unfortunately not for business.

If I were 100% in charge, I might have the hutzpah to go with that, but I'm not. ;)

nostr:npub1l3gpk6vrudg8r67swqlex5alv9ch59s4lw46kk6hekuxe2n3aczsyqvu48 Very happy with nostr:npub14azesvlzkrdpu8nhjw0snju99f3gj99r8mgla2hmhs6vs68jczcs66m7gz's #plainTextAccounting with #hledger.

https://hledger.org

Infinitely customizable, ultra safe data format, git versionable, flexible tagging, budgeting and forecasting capabilities.

But only if the terminal is your thing 📟

🙂

I'm all-in to plain text and CLI apps for personal use, but for this application, it needs to be usable by an "ordinary mortal." ;)

nostr:npub1l3gpk6vrudg8r67swqlex5alv9ch59s4lw46kk6hekuxe2n3aczsyqvu48 I’m using Odoo for my business and I’m quite happy with it. It’s open core though

nostr:npub1v042s0urqhzrue3xrle89ts859093qu5pzavfs8l2c8aaqfuw9lqqy7c5t

That's one I've considered in the past. I'll give them another look.

Are you using it for personal accounting, or SMB (small-medium business)?

I love the idea of commandline accounting (I'm already doing command line time tracking and todos), but this is for work, and I need something that other people can use as well. :)

I'm familiar with a few of those, but I was wondering if anyone uses them for work.

Hey #AskFedi,

Is *anyone* out there using FOSS for accounting?

I'm struggling with Quickbooks desktop (which you can only get as a subscription now, unless you pay four figures for an enterprise license).

#Xero comes highly recommended to me, but I'm loathe to go "#cloud" for accounting. Very loathe indeed.

But while I want to try FOSS for my personal accounting, I just can't make the leap for business yet. I wish I could. But I was wondering if anyone out there already has.

nostr:npub1l3gpk6vrudg8r67swqlex5alv9ch59s4lw46kk6hekuxe2n3aczsyqvu48 Software license agreements? How many folk blindly tick the 'I agree' check box without reading a single word? Who does that with a real life contract?

The companies that make proprietary software somehow are given a high level of trust they never earned by disabling the product for people who do not agree to their terms of use, no matter how encroaching those terms may be.

nostr:npub1sxyvqegu2msughv9gnjpr389regzplp2j0dwpwg6u236ktcem2dsvpmwdj

Totally agree, and it's not just software.

I was going to a ball game with some friends, and I skimmed through the license agreement for the STUPID TICKETING SERVICE and they were all but claiming a spare kidney.

Not a single person read it. FFS

nostr:npub1l3gpk6vrudg8r67swqlex5alv9ch59s4lw46kk6hekuxe2n3aczsyqvu48 Right. Dolphin.

I spend a lot of my day job in Windows, and Kate is so much better than the Windows-equivalent GUI tools that it's part of my standard install now. I never did get the hype behind Notepad++; it's more capable than Notepad, sure, but so is, well, anything. Kate is much better than either and it looks good doing it too.

nostr:npub1p4yf3utz0gdc43v2vzpfx7k5vqc7mr3mrnr3qm2vm87pdp8myu9qkpl8vj

lol, yeah, very low bar. Although they finally gave Notepad tabs, so there's that. XD

Maybe I'm just a .*vi.* snob, but I consider any text editor without some kind of VI key mode to be hopelessly handicapped.

I just can't go back to reaching for cursor keys (and the ones above them)

VI really lets you FLY. XD

GUIZE!

Just stumbled upon this #GarageBand screenshot from mid-2009.

LOOK AT THE #SKEUMORPHISM!!! 😭
