Sabrina Abuka, 16, from Plaistow, was “lowest in the class” in English and hovering around a grade 6. She also regularly racked up 12 hours of screen time per day. After ditching the distraction of social media for the school year, she achieved a top grade 9 in English on results day. She was predicted a 7 in Chemistry and Physics and got an 8 in both. “I didn’t have any self-control and it was so distracting,” she says. “I used to spend my time on TikTok and … I spent it revising.”
Mohammad-Amin Opayemi, 16, from Canning Town, previously found it “very hard to focus” and went one step further, leaving his phone with the school for the duration of the day. “Staying away from social media took away the distraction,” he said.

A wind farm in southern Scotland has been given the go-ahead despite claims it will “unacceptably diminish” the hillwalking experience in Galloway.
Mountaineering Scotland (MS) objected to the 17-turbine Shepherd’s Rig plan near Carsphairn.
Dumfries and Galloway Council also argued the landscape was “incapable of accommodating the development”.
A Scottish government reporter noted the hillwalking concerns but ruled that it could proceed.
Proposals for a wind farm in the area surfaced nearly a decade ago when up to 45 turbines were planned.

Police investigating reports of a man removing dummies from babies have made an arrest.
Essex Police said pacifiers were taken from babies in Harlow on four occasions between 10 February and 7 August.
A 23-year-old-man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of theft from a person, robbery and using threatening behaviour to cause alarm or distress.
The incidents were reported in the Staple Tye Shopping Centre, Woodcroft, Parsloe Road and Cooks Spinney areas.
The man remains in police custody.
Essex Police said the investigation began after “a series of reports of a man approaching people with babies, and removing their dummies”.
It appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
It’s bloody outrageous, fucking system is falling apart and this is what they are bothered about, their arses need a flamethrower round them.

Example of this type of thing is also a friend of mine, same kind of thing, if there is a bog to walk into or an arsehole to become involved with she will manage it 🤦
Some years ago she had been visiting me and we had gone to Inverness for the day, there was this young bloke sitting begging on the street. Well, would she leave off, I eventually managed to get her to come away from him and march her into a cafe and sit her down and tell her that I knew all about him. He was notorious in the town, a wicked little shit that was never out of trouble, a revolving door of various vices. He’d been in and out different services and even got given the boot from some of them because of his behaviour towards other users, he was horrible and very much the author of his own misfortunes, his own mother had washed her hands of him, he was frequently in the papers for his latest outrage.

When this friend’s Mum had a bleed on the brain after being knocked unconscious they waited 13 hours before she had a CT scan and was admitted. It really is frightening. That’s a lady in her late 70s.
